Streets closed to traffic to celebrate the end of works – Diário de Notícias – Lisbon

Concerts, street entertainment and mega zumba classes, fitness and dance, to which is added the assembly of stalls selling ‘street food’ and craft mark the end of the works on the Central Axis

The city of Lisbon marks today the end of the works on the Central Axis of the city, which covers the avenues of the Republic and Fontes Pereira de Melo, with the sports activities and animation of the street, at a cost of 50 thousand euros.

Of the activities, which begin at 10:00 and run until 17:00, part concerts, street entertainment and mega zumba classes, fitness and dance, to which is added the assembly of stalls selling ‘street food’ (street food), and crafts.

in A clarification sent to the Lusa agency, the local authority indicates that “the overwhelming majority of the activities do not represent charges (…), being the result of partnerships that the municipality has with private entities, clubs and associations of the city of Lisbon, such as the Holmes Place, the Supera, the Gym, the Portuguese Club and the Association of Chess Lisbon”.

In regards to the “assembly of the physical structures of sound and electricity, it draws significantly on the resources of the Chamber,” adds the municipality.

As to the overall cost of the initiative, around 50 thousand euros, being that “the bulk of the expenditure are the costs of advertising in the press, 19.543 euros”.

“These ads serve two purposes: to warn the residents of the end of the works and of the conditioning of traffic on this artery central of the city, as well as the promotion of the event next Sunday,” concluded the city of Lisbon.

since the activities carried out in the street, the car traffic in the avenues John Chrysostom, and Tomás Ribeiro will be cut off from 06:00 to 20:00.

the design of The Central Axis, in the works since last may, has allowed the widening of sidewalks, creation of green areas, the resurfacing of the carriageway, the redevelopment of the parking and the creation of a bike lane two-way.

The intervention, budgeted at 7.5 million euros, has generated a challenge to the residents and merchants of impacts by traffic and in the parking lot.
