The notebook, which unites the present and the past of the Rivoli – the Journal News

Ricardo Jorge Fonseca

the launch of The “5.No. Notebook – Test on the files at the Rivoli” by Nuno Coelho, last Saturday, during the celebration of the 85.Anniversary of the Teatro Municipal of Porto is of particular symbolic value as it signals the return of a route discontinued in 2006, when the management of the theatre was handed to Filipe La Féria by the previous municipal executive.

it Was late in the afternoon, with the presence of the mayor, Rui Moreira, minister of Culture, Luís Filipe Castro Mendes, and the secretary of state for Culture, Miguel Honored, Nuno Coelho, designer and researcher, presented his exhibition “Monumentality of the files at the Rivoli” and the “5.ºCaderno”, explaining the genesis and design of the project.

Distributed free of charge to all who passed, on Saturday, the Rivoli, along the fifteen-hour non-stop programming, the “5.No. Notebook” was preceded by five more editions, beginning with the number zero, and were released bi-annually between 2002 and 2004, a period in which the theatre was directed by Isabel Alves Costa (1946-2009). The “5.No. Notebook Rivoli”, whose launch was scheduled for 2005, never made it out of the press, and only now have been known its contents.

If the previous numbers, all of them thematic and also offered free of charge to the public, were focused on the areas of dance and new circus, “5.No. Notebook” focuses on the set design, containing texts of Nuno Carinhas, Jorge Pinto, Ana Luena or Sissa Alfonso. For this work of reconstruction, Nuno Coelho explained, in his introduction to the Specification, have chosen “to publish the contents as were found in the file, being this work a fac-simile in monofolhas”.

Much more than a number “out of time”, this edition documents a process, and gives visibility to the memory contained in the files of the Rivoli. In addition to the images and texts, that are presented with notes and corrections, “5.No. notebook” also includes the budget requests of the graphical and other documents in connection with the preparation of the volume. A work of archaeology that makes the bridge between the present and this past, stopped, as he noticed Rui Moreira, who recalled that, in fact, a reference to the period of management of Filipe La féria, that “the demonstration against the Rivoli, as the belly of the rental was the foundation for my application”.

With the recovery of its role in supporting the creation of local and in the view of the proposed diversified in the area of dance, theater, cinema, music and literature, the Rivoli, she was also reunited with his past and can now, as complained about its director, Tiago Guedes, “celebrate the gift”.
