French Iris Mittenaere elected Miss Universe 2016 – Diário de Notícias – Lisbon

the Gala was held in the Philippines. Iris is 24 years old and is a student of dental medicine

The French Iris Mittenaere was today named Miss Universe 2016 in a gala held in Manila, in the Philippines, and succeeds in title to the philippine Pia Wurtzbach, who won the 2015 edition.

The second-ranked was the representative of Haiti, Raquel Pélissier, and the third position was for the colombian Andrea Tovar.

Mittenaere, 24 years old and 1,73 metres, a student of dental medicine and the model of Lille, became only the second French to win the title, more than six decades after his compatriot Christiane Martel in 1953.

“I do Not believe, it was a surprise,” said Mittenaere at a press conference after the event.

French said he feels “very proud to take this crown for Europe”, as the old continent has not had a Miss Universe from norway’s Mona Grudt in 1990.
