Mexefest ended in celebration with the public washed down with champagne – Daily News – Lisbon

After the collective catharsis of the first day with Benjamin Clementine, the last night of Mexefest had as big winners Peaches and Patrick Watson. Unforgettable the two

The stakes were high, after the concert Benjamin Clementine yesterday, but on Saturday night the Colosseum was once again the scene of one of the most memorable concerts in this year’s Mexefest. The controller made was one of the usual suspects, Patrick Watson, who returned to the festival with headliner status, immediately justified by bad public reaction took the stage, lit by a few lamps, balloons bizarre.

With the new album, Love Songs For Robots in luggage and a whole wealth of perfect pop songs, earning even more live charm, north musician – American presented an immaculate performance, snatching all present, even in times more intimate, as when, with the whole band gathered by him, interpreted the various voices the theme Into Giants. But the best was even reserved for the end, when the musician, followed by the band, flees the stage for the presidential box, megaphone, to interpret the classic Man Under The Sea, the album Close to Paradise, 2006. When all thought it was over, returned to sing To Build A Home, of Cinematic Orchestra.

Vodafone Mexefest: the end is a principle any – Spread-Facts

From room to room, you can not stop the Vodafone Mexefest . Each end concert there are others who already waiting for us and the musical chain, even not always making the most of the senses, it makes this a unique experience. That says who crossed calming Nicolas Godin , the hurricane Peaches or the “anything goes” the huge Patrick Watson .

The last night of Vodafone Mexefest in 2015 was marked by many concerts of Portuguese bands. In Vodafone Black Out Room, Benjamin gave darkened music for those who like to experience new sensations, the Delta Room Foz Palace Salvador Sobral challenged to more jazzy sounds and Garage Epal Flamingos showed their gentle songs.

One of the biggest names of the festival however occupied the Lisbon Coliseum , room that proved too great for schizophrenia that Ariel Pink and company took up the stage. With a sound initially very doubtful (room fruit half gas?), A vast entourage on stage to invoke a certain psicadelia, only in the most pop sounds of pom pom edited solo album in 2014, it seemed to notice the voice Ariel Pink .

It is essential to understand what he has to say. A society that does not fit and the oddity that the feature is more noticeable when you come with iphones, selfies and clouds in Picture Me Gone or when speaks of his “ gipsy heart “in the trendy Put Your Number in My Phone . The themes of Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti also present but the arguments were unable to hold the audience uncomfortable if unable to fit in the dreams of Ariel Pink. A pity.

But as there were more expectations to see fulfilled the race was made to listen to Nicolas Godin , half of the seminal Air , presented its baroque experience Contrepoint , half reinterpretation, half re-creation, themes Bach that invited to a journey in time in sumptuous room Tivoli BBVA . Sounding the orchestra – and at the same is a project that wants to do. – Monitoring on keyboards and drums with guitar arrangements marked one that was possibly the most challenging concert festival

But already Peaches set fire to the stage Tank and sweat and other fluids that there are dropped could have possibly filled the old pool. With a breathtakingly own performance on stage was thirty by a line, while presenting RUB . Not alone, since inflatable dolls and the Portuguese The Chick , which had acted before there even gave a hand to the exoticism of Peaches .

At the door side however the Lisbon Coliseum was filling for the final concert of Vodafone Mexefest to receive the cherished (and affectionate) Patrick Watson . His was the most beautiful stage festival (with lamps illuminating each of the band members), was it the backing vocals more sweeping (greatly to enriching their subjects), was it a surprise to see an megaphone band and saw singing the grandstand of the noble Lisbon room.

Despite the emphasis on their recent album, Love Songs For Robots , Watson strutted about for other discs, providing a cohesive concert, intense and absolutely dedicated to the audience to clap (sometimes too much) and chanting choruses and choirs. For their part, a lot of love, admiration and a voice tremendous that even the megaphone or just around a small microphone with the whole band (for Man Like You and Into Giants ) does not fail a tone.

And the laughs, those childish laughter, make hearts melt. Also why have heard many declarations of love and there was even a bolder fan who jumped the galleries and the embrace was the tribune where he sang, as the encore, Man Under the Sea . And when many had already left the room Patrick Watson returned to alone at the piano play To Build a Home , topic on which he collaborated with Cinematic Orchestra and the general feeling was that was voted the festival concert.

Citing Portuguese PAUS , “the end is any principle” and this was the last festival of the year, begin preparations for 2016. And the The Sound of Music has said that the Vodafone Mexefest will have for the year new ingredients. There.

Ana Moura: “Shyness is part of my corner” – Correio da Manhã

continues to deconstruct fado with the applause of all. Ana Moura is the largest phenomenon of Lisbon song

He gave more than 400 concerts in six years, in and out of the country. ‘Desfado’ drive, 2012 It was the best selling domestic album in five years, reaching five plates, nearly 77,000 copies sold, and staying there consecutive 145 weeks in the top of Portuguese sales. Also hit the top spot of world music charts in England, Spain and USA. Ana Moura is the largest phenomenon of fado. Three years ago, began to deconstruct the song of Lisbon, and so now goes to the new disk:. ‘Moura’

With so many made in his career, it can be said that Ana is at this point a ‘Moura’ enchanted?

Yes. I think when the charm end it ceases to be grace. The charm is part. It is good to be constantly surprised. I did not expect, for example, that the ‘Desfado’ [2012 album] have been received so well, much less expected today, three years later, still in the top ten best-selling albums.

This charm that speaks dazzle means?

I think not. I am sure that never deslumbrei me. I like the word spell.

Sit a phenomenon?

(laughs). No. I have a hard time seeing me out. Only when others call me out is that I think the best things. Carlos do Carmo, for example, asked, “Now what’s going to happen to fado after ‘Desfado’, which is what will happen next?” (laughs).

But this new album seems a ‘Desfado Part II’. This thing to deconstruct fado is an irreversible path?

I wanted this record had a butterfly on the cover precisely to symbolize transformation, the symbolism of metamorphosis. Regarding the ‘Desfado’, this disc has some repeaters composers, has the same producer, but musically has a few different things.

And what are those things?

The ‘Desfado’ was more raw. This has already electric guitars, for example. The Portuguese guitar itself was treated differently, with an electric guitar amplifier, giving you a different sound. In terms of arrangements, there is very little different details. The sound that gives introduction to disk, for example, is the feedback of an electric guitar with the start of a tape recorder.

is a more free disk?

Yes, now I do not want something else (laughs). There are charming details here I had not done in the ‘Desfado’. I think this record is even more daring than the last.

feel like you’ve created a fado yours?

Yes. I feel it more and more. That’s my main goal, and I think I’m getting it.

And this fate is well understood by everyone?

Honestly, I stopped thinking about it. After recording the ‘Desfado’ I confess I had some fear, but people understood it well. I think I have realized that I have no intention to change the fate. I’m just following my path. Fado is full of these stories. The very Amalia came to be challenged at various times in his career.

Anna back to bring fado people who are not of fado, like Jorge Cruz, who signs the single ‘Day Off’ and is the lead singer of the Devil on the Cross, a punk folk band. This is why irreverence or for personal pleasure?

This everyone has a very Portuguese language, only that it is a very current language and with which I identify myself too much. The ‘Day Off’ could not be more Portuguese, with all the characters. For me, all these composers have a singer vein.

For the first time, recorded a subject of Carlos Have, lyricist of Rui Veloso!

Having Carlos was the first lyricist I sang, because when I was very little singing the songs of Rui. This theme ['My Love went to Brazil'] was a fluke. Manuela Azevedo was the Clan who showed me this song because it had not come to record it and thought I’d like. I fell in love right away, of course. Have I asked for the record and he told me then yes. Interestingly, not yet met in person. We are to combine coffee.

She started singing those who today are known as the evenings da Moura family, was still the one Ana scull. What there is still that girl?

There is still a lot. In fact, there is still everything. It’s funny, because I thought it was an outgoing girl. I have a brother three years older than me. At that time the gatherings with my parents and their friends, was the first to ask to come home. I stood up to so many dancing, singing and playing with my dad. So until very recently I had the idea that had been an outgoing child (laughs).

And why today says otherwise

Some time ago, I met with some friends this time told me: “Oh, that Funny, it continues to be the shy girl ever. ” Apparently, the already was at the time but did not know (laughs).

And it’s easy to be shy and always surrounded by crowds?

Today I recognize that I can be shy, but I am also a person who loves to live. I am sociable, but not really social. I think that’s the best way to describe me.

How is fighting this shyness when you’re on stage?

No fight. I now accept it. I learned to accept it over time and to live with it. All people who deal with me know that I have this personality trait. And it’s funny because today I even realize that shyness is part including my corner. A few years ago, it was said too that the artist could not be shy, and I’m proof that it is not true (laughs). And do not think it has to be something that has to be changed.

So to say that this sensuality very characteristic voice of Ana Moura, after all, is shyness?

My voice also has a dose of shyness, yes. . Only it’s contained

In the fates of this new album, written by Manuela de Freitas, sings: ‘My voice suddenly / is the voice of everyone / De all that life has / When the evening comes to an end / I looking for me / And I can not find anyone. ” It’s about you?

These verses are quite descriptive because of me (laughs). The Manuela knows me very well and therefore hit the bullseye. But it is also important to say that walk a stage where I am accepting the difference in my life.

What difference is this?

While most people have a routine life, mine is anything but routine. Sometimes he stopped, gave to me looking for myself. I felt a great emptiness. Today, I have learned that my life is different.

And it was hard to accept that lifestyle?

I think I accepted it does naturally. Music and concerts taught me a lot. Today, I feel full, satisfied and useful. When people come to me, for example, to tell me that exceeded a difficult phase of life with a letter or my fate, that makes me extremely accomplished. And these things help me a lot to accept my condition.

What was the most emotional approach which had?

Recently, the recording of my new video, one of the technicians asked me if I could call her father, who loved to hear me sing and that was days old. That moment was very sad, but then left me happy to give that time to that person.

And at the end of the concerts is also those people who are signing autographs for hours?

I am. Like much of this contact, unless you have a plane to catch or having to get up at five in the morning the next day.

The first single from the new album is titled ‘Day Off ‘. Still can take days for you?

I have some, but not really force myself to afastar- Me music. I do not feel anything this need, because music is part of my happiness. Some time ago, I’ve been looking for a country to go to holiday, and one of the conditions was soon travel to a country that has good music (laughs). I wanted to sun, beach and rest, but at the same time listening to good music.

SURROUNDED ONLY FOR THE BEST IN THE NEW ALBUM

Recorded by Angelo Freire on guitar Portuguese, Pedro Soares in breach of fado, and produced by Larry Klein (four Grammy winner), the new Ana Moura disc has a list of luxury credits. Among them are Dan Lutz (bass), who has recorded with Lizz Wright and Michael Bublé; Dean Parks (guitar), who collaborated in the studio with Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Diana Ross; Pete Korpela (percussion), who has worked with Robbie Williams and Melody Gardot; Pete Kuzma (keyboards), who already had the name associated with Jill Scott and Lizz Wright; Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), which for decades followed Frank Zappa and Sting. The more personalized the original six of Ana Moura discs, this “Moura” is named after war in subscription form, a cover where stands a butterfly, metamorphosis symbol Ana Moura has played throughout his career, a metamorphosis embodied in “Moura”, an album of elegant sung mixtures by Moura enchanting.

Maradona kicked out of the hotel for “bad behavior” (video) – The Ball

Mourinho relies on Sneijder and Deco to explain that Hazard is not a “10″ – The English press advances that Eden Hazard will be asked to Jose Mourinho to start playing in the central area, however, the Portuguese coach in their view, it considers that the Belgian international did not meet the requirements to play the place.

“Hazard # 10? I do not have this opinion. For me, number 10 has to do several things with the ball and without the ball. A “ten” number is a very special player in my teams “began by saying the coach of English champions, quoted by the website Goal.

Mourinho then explained the characteristics that such a player should have to be indispensable in their formations.

“I like a” 10 “that makes goals and get near the area. In my view, a number ten has to be an “8 and a half” to defend and later a “nine and a half” when the team has the ball, “he stressed, then add what’s your number” 10 “perfect.

“Perfect 10? Wesley Sneijder and Deco. They argue, can appear in end zones and score goals, “he concluded.

The night the voice of Benjamin Clementine snatched Lisbon – publico

They came in droves, from all the other rooms of the Vodafone Mexefest festival, heading towards the Opera House. It was the time of English musician, Parisian heart, Benjamin Clementine, in what was the most anticipated concert the evening of Friday, in Lisbon, Vodafone Mexefest festival.

They arrived yet with the spirit in which They had been in most of the other concerts: talking to the partner’s hand on new friends, laughing glass in hand, taking with inevitable self-portraits smile with iPhone or discussing the economic situation of the country. The usual. The trivialities of life

There was everything: the most curious part because they had heard the debut album At Least For Now – but live the experience of listening to those songs is totally. different – and others because they had seen him in the Super Bock Super Rock festival in July. And still others, the most cynical or suspicious, that there are always on these occasions, to see if the phenomenon would not snake oil.

And suddenly heard piano notes, fine still with him just caress the instrument, as usual, tall, slender, aristocratic in bearing, but barefoot, african mane of long coat, sitting in a peculiar way on the edge of a stool.

The frivolity of the world or so if silenced. There was unrest in the packed room. The sound of the piano was rising in intensity slightly. And then there was that voice, something supernatural: the world’s guts, we did hear the Colosseum and the Avenida da Liberdade and we are sure Full Lisbon , moistened, went dead, bright-eyed, totally stunned, leaving for a moment the offal of life, turning to the essentials, to humanity that voice, that song.

In the end, the room came below. In fact, not stopped coming down along the concert. Let’s be clear. It fascinarmo us easy by his biography, as told in these pages several times. It is also easy to admire his voice, the magnetizing presence and his music, as one looks with a bit of coolness to a frame on the wall. But then he has the rest: it’s like us, or so fantasize, touches us, rolls us, exposes despair, anger, violent sweetness and also satisfaction and instead of admiring only, we to love him.

And so it was throughout the concert. A relationship of devotion. The audience, have heard promises of love. There were those who did not stop crying. They beat up the palms compass. They sang to chants in unison. And the stage, moved but always humble, bowing before this celebration. Yes, it was so touching, so beautiful, like this. One of those nights you never forget.

Already we had seen on three previous occasions and it’s always different. In Brighton, for example, has an almost next recital of silence, making follow occasionally by a violinist. In two other situations, such as the Super Bock Super Rock festival, presented itself as a more conventional training, and this Friday was accompanied only by a drummer.

The arrangements and musical solutions also engendered are gone modifying, and even his stage presence is gone changing. Between musician who a few months ago just ruminated garbled sentences with the tour and the singer who now thanks in Portuguese and can interact with the audience will light years.

Sometimes the sound of the piano out cascaded , assisted by the battery, the notes chasing until he drop that elastic baritone. Sometimes it’s pianissimo, the Colosseum is silent, a chill seems to settle down, soon to be majestic, as if his voice, sublimating autobiographical lyrics, did rebound in the third counter, while the music, or jazz, or classical, or soul or blues, but all this while was hovering in space.

Sometimes closes his eyes, he transcends it, pull the voice limits, exposes an emotional expressiveness enraptured, to then pour an elegant intensity if glimpsing them his long fingers and eloquent gestures. The songs do not have a rigid structure. Those that the audience recognizes are being shredded ( London , Condolence , Adious , Nemesis , Cornerstone ), but there is also room for other songs, with swing and rhythm with drums, piano and voice in duels rolling.

Mexefest. The music started in the dark – Daily News – Lisbon

Many queues and crowded concerts. The Vodafone Mexefest began the custom of boiling

It was completely dark that started another edition of Mexefest. The Vodafone Blackout Room, where several artists will perform at the pitch in small shows of 15 minutes, is one of the big news this year and, given the queues that early on formed the Cinema São Jorge port to listen to US Akua Naru, will also be one of the biggest hits of the poster of this year.

Fifteen minutes later, at eight, drew simultaneously Brazilian concerts the January (House of Alentejo), and the Portuguese El Salvador (São Jorge Cinema) and Greyhound (Rossio Station), which gave the starting shot for a marathon of concerts and respective pilgrimages between the different rooms, some of them quite crowded – as happened from very early in the Church of San Luigi dei Francesi, where the queue with several tens of meters, to see the intimate folk of London Anna B. Savage, left on edge to many of those present. Looser, though equally well made public, was the concert Tó Trips on the beautiful room of the Geographical Society, which came accompanied by John Sweet, drummer and percussionist of Wraygunn, which further the already filled him quite dense compositions of guitar player. Hogwarts in Lisbon?

Ana B Savage in the Church of San Luigi dei Francesi

However, a little further up in the garage of EPAL, the Portuguese Cave Story also had full house, such as the US American Akua Naru, the Rossio Station, where all who had no opportunity to “see” in the dark, could now watching live and in color all the different shades of his music and poetry.

This constant choice and stampede between the different stages is perhaps the greatest hallmark of the festival, whose counterpoint the ever annoying queues, often at the must-see concert. And if it does not even enter, the advantage is that there is always something more to happen. And by the way always lies someone’s name or discovers another hidden corner of the capital – as that girl with gothic air to the entrance of the Tó Trips concert, pulled euphoric her friend’s coat sleeve, comparing the Company’s room Geography of the Hogwarts school of magic of Harry Potter …

Many hours before beginning the concerts, the festival was already in motion, not in the axis of the Avenida da Liberdade, but in Principe Real, the Ring of the Old Royal College of Nobles, part of the Museum of Natural History and Science, which in this second edition appears for the first time in Mexefest integrated program. Organized by St. Anthony’s Parish Council, in collaboration with the journalist and editor Rui Miguel Abreu, brings together the leading national independent publishers, a true fair of music, she also with many concerts to the mix. “This connection to Mexefest makes perfect sense, because the independent music is something that from the beginning is part of the DNA of this festival. On the other hand, it is very important this exchange of experiences between different publishers, in addition, of course, the discs that are sold “(the festival wristband holders have 10 per cent discount on all purchases), highlights Rui Miguel Abreu also responsible for curating” Science Rhythmic Advanced “which will animate during the festival, the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace Foz, the sound of the new generation of national hip-hop. “I really wanted to see Roots Manuva, but as the concert was canceled, I must get me the Palácio Foz” he said.

Most of the public, however, preferred to go see the British Benjamin Clementine the Coliseum the Recreios where today also operate two of the most anticipated names of this Mexefest:. Ariel Pink and Patrick Watson

filled rooms and many people on the streets on the first night
