Dylan breaks silence on Nobel – Terra Brasil

Singer says he is honored by the tribute, but still does not confirm the presence at the ceremony in Stockholm. The academy states that, for award, be deemed to be accepted, he will at least send a video. The american singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, awarded with the Nobel prize for Literature at the beginning of the month, broke the silence on Friday (28/10) on the award, saying-if honored with the tribute, but still not confirming his presence at the ceremony.

Known for avoiding the press, Dylan had not made until now any comment about the award, in spite of repeated attempts of contact made by the Swedish Academy since it was announced as the winner on 13 October.

In a statement, the Nobel Foundation announced that Dylan said this week Sara Danius, the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy, which accepts the prize. And, to the English newspaper the Telegraph, stated that, if possible, will be in the award ceremony.

“it Is hard to believe. Who doesn’t dream of something like this?”, said the singer to the newspaper, using the word “amazing” to describe the honor. Later, asked would be going to the dinner hosted by king Carl Gustaf of Sweden, said: “Certainly, if that is possible.”

Ceremony

According to the Swedish Academy, Dylan is not obliged to go to the ceremony in Stockholm, scheduled for the next day, 10 December. But, for the prize will be deemed to be accepted, he will have to leave some kind of message, even for video.

“I hope that he will do what you want, we are doing everything we can to tailor the festivities to it,” said Danius, suggesting that Dylan can sing a song, make a speech or read a poem, for example.

There are decades speculated on a Nobel prize for Literature for the singer, but many argued that the Academy would not recognize a star of pop music. Additionally, give the prize to a musician it could also be interpreted as a critique of the indirect to the contemporary literature, the equivalent of saying that no writer worthy of the prize.

The Nobel prize is the latest of several distinctions awarded to the singer, who has received 11 Grammy awards, an Oscar for Best Original Song, a Pulitzer for “his compositions lyrical and of the extraordinary power of the poetic, which had a profound impact on popular music and american culture”, among other awards. In 2012, he raised even the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded by president Barack Obama to honor the civil highest in the United States.
