“One Thousand and One Nights” open Short Vila do Conde – Daily News – Lisbon

The Vila do Conde Short – International Film Festival kicks off in its 23rd edition, July 4 with the new film by Miguel Gomes, on national premiere. The film is a portrait of contemporary Portugal and contradictions caused by the economic crisis, through an epic structure that fits the story of Scheherazade in three separate volumes: The Restless , The Heartbroken and The Dark , a total of six hours of film. A journey through a country that lives dichotomies between rich and poor, employed and unemployed, and that is invaded by desolation.

The cast includes, among others, with the likes of Adriano Luz, Gonçalo Waddington, Joana Verona Teresa Madruga and Crista Taylor. The work – a co-production between Portugal, France, Switzerland and Germany – had its world premiere in the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival and will debut in the Portuguese cinemas between August and September
