Cavaco Silva and Passos Coelho today inaugurated new Museum of … – RTP


 

 

 The ceremony will take place in the new building – designed by architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha – also be attended by the President of Parliament, Assunção Esteves, and the Secretary of State for Culture, Jorge Barreto Xavier.
 

 The general director of Cultural Heritage, Nuno Vassallo e Silva, an organization that oversees national museums, and the director of the National Coach Museum, Silvana Bessone, participating in the ceremony, along with other members of the Government and local authorities and other guests.
 

 The opening to the public takes place on Saturday and Sunday with free admission, and a program that will include a parade of Charanga Horse GNR and a display of the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art.
 

 Saturday marks the 110 anniversary of the opening of the original museum, housed in the Royal Riding School in 1905 at the initiative of Queen Amelia, wife of King Carlos I.
 

 The new building houses a unique collection in the world considered, composed of 78 vehicles, ranging from the seventeenth century to the nineteenth century, mostly from the estate of the crown or of the Portuguese Royal House.
