Book Fair of Lisbon expects to receive 600,000 visitors – Digital Journal

The 85th Book Fair of Lisbon, located in the park Eduardo VII, which projects receive 600 000 visitors and has a record number of 123 participants and 271 pavilions, opens this Thursday, May 28, at 16 hours.
 

The opening ceremony, at 16 am, at the Yellow Square, has the Secretary of State of the presence of Culture, Jorge Barreto Xavier, the Mayor of Lisbon, Fernando Medina, the councilor of Culture, Catarina Vaz Pinto, and the president of the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers (APEL), John Alvim.

Among the novelties of this year, takes place the initiative “Camping with stories”, in partnership with Municipal Libraries and which is expected the participation of 120 children between eight and 12, who will spend a night in the Cold Greenhouse, including books and short stories.

Also new is a space dedicated to gastronomy with the installation of a kitchen which will host several cooking demonstrations.

At the fair is expected the participation of the president of the Federation of European Publishers, Pierre Dutilleul, who speaks this Thursday, May 28, on copyright and piracy at a conference scheduled for 18 hours, which will also include the participation of the Secretary of State for Culture, Jorge Barreto Xavier, and John Alvim.

Other presences highlighted by APEL is the co-president of the European Federation and the International Booksellers, Kyra Dreher, taking part in a session on the law of fixed book prices, and the president of the International Publishers Association, Richard Charkin, who will speak on international constraints the copyright and the fight against piracy.

As part of the event will be held the first meeting Literary “We and the books” and the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation will promote a cycle of 11 debates on Portuguese economy, parliament and education, among others.

The Fair is open until June 14, and has diverse activities, including book presentations, autograph sessions and debates.
