Cannes “forgets” the Italians – RTP

Cannes 2015

France won several awards and Italy was the … zero – with the Palme d’Or awarded to “Dheepan “Jacques Audiard, the jury will have loved, first of all stress the importance of a strong film on the issues of the day.

There is a paradoxical irony in the history of the 68th Festival de Cannes. In fact, the jury chaired by the Coen brothers distinguished the French, very internally attacked by the “quality” of its representatives, and left out the Italians, generally seen as a very strong presence (even longer aimed at the premium end of the year season ).

The French won the Palme d’Or with “Dheepan” by Jacques Audiard, and appear distinguished in two categories of interpretation, with Vincent Lindon and Emmanuelle Bercot (responsible for the longest speech, and also more rhetorical, the ceremony). The Italians had the admirable Nanni Moretti (“Madre Mia”), Matteo Garrone and still (“Tale of Tales”) and Paolo Sorrentino (“Youth”), but … nothing received.

is a condition that does not illustrate the traditional ties of cooperation between the French and Italian cinematography – quite simply, as is normal in these things, is limited to reflect the dynamic ideas of a stuffed personalities jury strong.

Sign up, above all, the jury based its choices too in order to emphasize the thematic density of the films: absolute present in the case of “Dheepan”, with its reference to the dramas of refugees (in this case, coming from Sri Lanka to France); symbolic, ideological and political importance in the Holocaust vision contained in “Son of Saul,” the Hungarian film László Nemes who snatched the important Grand Prix (second in the history of the hierarchy).

Finally, it should be noted that the ceremony have honored Agnès Varda, multifaceted talented lady, about six decades since the heroic days of the New Wave, connected to the internal dynamics of French cinema. His words of Jacques Demy (1931-1990) – it has evoked in the movie “Jacquot de Nantes” (1991) – constituted a genuine movie buff time, always striking a festival that wants, and know preserve the memories.
