Cutting illegal connections leave 300 people without light – TVI24

About 300 people from the neighborhood lands da Costa, on the Costa de Caparica, were without power Wednesday, with the GNR and the EDP need the court focused on illegal connections, announced the chamber Almada, in a statement.

The local authority said it was Father Antonio Pires, responsible for the Parish of Our Lady of Conception, who realized that there was an intervention that led to the interruption of electricity supply to about 300 people, among which include nearly 70 children.



“The Chamber was informed that among the people affected by that action, there will be some with health problems, which may be aggravated by the failure to provide electricity”

The local authority adds, according to Lusa, that unknown whether this intervention was “preceded by contacts with other entities” in order to “prevent and minimize collateral damage and harm innocent people may suffer as a result of the triggered action. ”

The same agency contacted the GNR who explained that the intervention took place today, having been related to complaints because there are illegal connections and a copper theft process:

“It was an intervention in the Costa Land neighborhood. We had complaints of illegal connections and in the context of a process on copper theft had to seize a cable to evidence. The action had the support of EDP”

According to the source, confirming that there were about 300 people to run out of power on the spot it was found that there are several illegal connections that were turned off.

“Do not know the extent of illegal connections and although we regret the social disorders, GNR had to intervene, because this energy is paid by someone else and is a crime,” he said, noting that the position of the local GNR is available to provide support.

The EDP has confirmed that attended the action at the request of GNR. “We work at the request of GNR and we were convinced that the GNR was aligned with the local authority. The EDP hung up existing illegal connections,” said the source EDP Lusa.

Almada Chamber said it intends to make available, of “extraordinary and temporary” way, a portable generator to ensure electricity supply.
