The House Manoel de Oliveira in Porto, will be based in Europe’s Sindika Dokolo Foundation. The building constructed by Eduardo Souto de Moura for the filmmaker, but that was never used, was sold Monday by 1.58 million to a company called Supreme Treasures, Ld.ª, linked to the Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos, married to Sindika Dokolo. In a statement, the entrepreneur says that the building will be “a space for reflection and learning for young artists”

Last year, the Sindika Dokolo Foundation presented the Port exposure You love me, you love me not , and when the balance sheet was revealed that the foundation wanted to settle in the city its new “global antenna.” At the time, the House Manoel de Oliveira was singled out as one of the possibilities for installing this arm of the cultural structure of Sindika Dokolo, along with the Pinto Leite Palace or the Palace of the Arts Youth Foundation. Now, the business owner confirms that the choice fell on the house that Manoel de Oliveira never used.

“When you establish yourself in a building as the House Manoel de Oliveira, in full Porto Foz, we are affirming our intended to help make the Port more cosmopolitan and more cultural. In this space we promote artistic reflection networks and strengthen ties between Portugal and Angola, Europe and Africa, in a ode to art while unifying element of peoples and countries, “said Sindika Dokolo, in a statement sent to the PUBLIC.

In the auction, which took place early on Monday in the City Hall, the Supreme Treasures was represented by lawyer Diogo Duarte Campos, who, according to Lusa, declined to provide any clarification on the faces behind the company, invoking the “obligation of professional secrecy”. However, according to official records, the company, established in September last year, with short capital thousand euros, is manager Mário Filipe Moreira Leite da Silva, representing the Isabel interests of Santos in European business.

Throughout the day, the House of Porto always assured unaware who bought the house and what use would be given to him and, after Sindika Dokolo confirmation that the building would be established his foundation in Europe , President Rui Moreira was unavailable for comment, as it is in working meeting on the future of STCP. However, in the morning, asked by reporters outside the Town Hall, Rui Moreira said he would like the house had a “cultural component”, being relieved by itself solve the problem of “abandonment” of the building.

“It is a house of Souto authored by Moura therefore has at once a material impact on the city’s architectural point of view and was an asset that was lost because the use for which it was designed it was never implemented and was not sure the fault of the town hall, “he said.

The House Manoel de Oliveira, consisting of two tranches, was built nearly two decades ago with the aim of being the home of film director and also an exhibition space of its estate. However, the project progressed without a prior agreement between the municipality and the director of Aniki-Bóbó , for the use of the property conditions, and since its completion in 2003, the building remains vacant.

In 2007, Manoel de Oliveira accused Rui Rio executive of the failure of the constitution of the house-museum and already in 2013, the Serralves Foundation and his family signed an agreement to install the filmmaker’s estate in building will be designed by architect Alvaro Siza for the Serralves Park. In 2014, the House of Porto, already chaired by Rui Moreira, tried to sell the property for the first time, but the auction would be deserted.

Now, the building will receive the foundation’s headquarters established in 2003 in the Angolan capital, Luanda, in order to promote art. With an estate of about three thousand works, written by 90 artists from 25 countries, the foundation focuses mainly on contemporary art and has been present in fairs such as ARCO (Madrid), the Venice Biennale (Italy) or OCA Space, in São Paulo (Brazil).

In March 2015, before presenting the Port exposure You love me, you love me not , Sindika Dokolo Camera received the municipal medal of Merit, Gold Grade.
