DiCaprio leads the Oscars race – Correio da Manhã

film with Leonardo DiCaprio has 12 nominations.

Hollywood decided this year to embrace the big show. On the one hand, sent ‘Star Wars – The Awakening of force’ only for technical categories (of five nominations) and ruled him out of the eight choices for the Oscar for Best Picture, the other put the thriller ‘The reborn ‘, which opens next Thursday in Portugal, at the forefront, with 12 nominations for the statuettes.

The following are the choices of the Academy, revealed this Thursday in Los Angeles, the film of unbridled action ‘Mad Max – Road Rage’, with ten nominations, and science fiction ‘Lost in Mars’, Ridley Scott, with seven.

Already in the auteur film registration, there are three works in focus. ‘The Bridge of Spies’, Steven Spielberg’s drama ‘Carol’, Todd Haynes, and ‘The Case Spotlight’, Tom McCarthy, together for six Oscars each. But of these three, only McCarthy is nominated for the Best Director. A category that can lead the Mexican Alejandro González Iñárritu to repeat the feat two consecutive years won ‘Birdman’ (2015) and it risks encore with ‘The Reborn’. If this happens, it will be the first time in 65 years.

The actor Eddie Redmayne, nominated for ‘The Danish Girl’, can also repeat the feat, as it won in 2015 the Oscar for Best Actor for “The Theory of Everything ‘.

Doubts fall apart on February 28, the 88th edition, taking place in Beverly Hills. Driving the gala will be in charge of the actor Chris Rock.
