‘The Danish Girl’: the story of the first person who has changed sex – Digital Journal

“The Danish Girl” covers the history of Einar Wegener, the first person to undergo a sex change intervention. Directed by Tom Hooper (“The King’s Speech” and “Les Miserables”, for example), and based on the book by David Ebershoff, hardly will have nominations for the Oscar, especially his two protagonists, Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander.

recognized painter Einar Wegener always knew I was not suited to your body, but it was when served as a model for women a picture of also painter Gerda Wegener, his wife, who had the full awareness of what your “I” inside demanded. What the moviegoer is presented is precisely this change in the lives of the couple, since the full discovery of this need until the final sex change, since the transformation of Einar Wegener in Lili Elbe, in the middle of Denmark and Paris of the 20s, despite the surgery, pioneering at the time, have been held in Germany (in two years, has undergone five surgeries).

The fight Einar Wegener / Lili Elbe is now a reference to the gay movement, lesbian bisexual and transgender, but the truth is that few know its history, something that is now upset with the film by Tom Hooper, who does not overlook any detail: the frame, the music of Alexander Desplat, the costumes, photography, etc. The director presents a work that is increasingly rare to find in the movies due to extreme presented care (as remain indifferent to the touch in the semi Einar Wegener …), from the dramas of the couple to the prejudices, as people as “Lili” They were often hospitalized in mental institutions or electroshock target.

Of course, ‘The Danish Girl’ very lives of two great interpretations, which hardly will not be among the nominees for the Oscar. Both Alicia Vikander as Eddie Redmayne are absolutely fabulous. The first due to its spontaneity, the second due to construction of his character, the transformation that has throughout the film, from man to woman. The truth is that “The Danish Girl” would be a complete failure if the choice of its protagonists had been wrong, which fortunately does not happen. Vikander and Redmayne (who won the Oscar this year …) are completed in full and offer two works really overwhelming.

Finally, to mention that the King of Denmark dissolved the marriage of Lili Elbe in the late 30, and its new sexuality later legalized
