Culture Minister says “everything is open” about the fate of Miró collection – LUSA

The Minister of Culture said today that “everything is open” about the fate of the paintings of Miró, pointing as a priority the inventory of the collection, which can either be “deposited” the North and the South.

In Braga, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Interpretation Centre of the Memories of Mercy of Braga, João Soares explained that if those 85 pictures of the Spanish painter – who belonged to the old LBW and are now on guard State -. get deposited in Lisbon, the first exhibition to be in Porto and vice versa

The holder of Culture folder also said there was a “very high availability” of the ministry that directs to “dialogue” with local authorities, church, charitable institutions and other institutions to find solutions “best fit” to value the net assets of the country.

“It’s open,” said João Soares, when asked about the fate of the collection of paintings by Miró.

“If the Miró’s collection be deposited in Lisbon, as I hope it can become a national space, the first exhibition to take place in the North so that it is inventoried, something that still was not over so many years has not been inventoried. If the assets were to remain in Oporto, there are possibilities that he can stay in the port or in the north, the first exhibition to be done in the South, “said

At the opening of a work considered “extremely important”, the restoration of Raio Palace, in Braga, the result of joint work of Braga municipality and of the Holy House of Mercy, John Soares stressed the importance of “collaboration” between the state, municipalities and other institutions.

“It is this logic of cooperation with holy houses and the local government that we want to continue working,” he said.

“There is great availability of the current Ministry of Culture for dialogue with authorities, mercies, with others, with the Church, in order to find solutions that are the best fit for the immense heritage that we have in our land, in a perspective of recovery of this collection, which is part of our identity as a country and as a people, and the multiplication of resources that can be generated, “he said.

The Raio Palace, which is now installed Interpretive Center Memories of the Holy House of Mercy, designed by Braga architect André Soares, it was built between 1752 and 1755, one of the most emblematic buildings of baroque Braga, and belonged to the complex of the former Hospital of St. Mark, who went there in 2011.

The restoration of the building and the installation of that center interpretive had a cost of 4.2 ME, financed by the Regional Operational Programme North and Jessica through the Fund.

By the Palace of rooms is now possible to see more than 500 years of history of Mercy of Braga, with still rooms available for temporary exhibitions.
