The Minister of Culture, João Soares said on Saturday they had proposed to the Serralves Foundation that the first exhibition of the works of the Catalan Joan Miró, in state ownership since the nationalization of the Portuguese Business Bank (BPN) takes place in Serralves in Porto, next year.

“I have already discussed with the Ministry of Finance that we would make a public exhibition that Miró’s collection, which belonged to the BPN, so one can make an inventory and then an assessment and for it to pass to belong to the collections of Portuguese museums “said Joao Soares told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with President of the Serralves Foundation, Luis Braga da Cruz.

The Minister of Culture stressed that it would be “very interesting, although without any kind of due date, which, for the year, the first public exhibition of this collection of Miró [were] made here in Serralves” in Porto.

Asked about the budget cuts that institutions such as Serralves suffered in recent years, João Soares stressed that the meeting with Braga da Cruz, who ends his duties at the Council on Foundation Administration later this month, was “almost only courtesy. “

” Do not expect me answers on the knee issues that are serious and have to be treated with confidence and maturity to be. It is in this perspective that we are here and in the perspective of what Serralves is and will continue to be for the port and for the country, “said the governor.

John Soares also announced that it will propose that Braga da Cruz receive cultural merit medal so finish your term at the head of Serralves.

Since the steps of Government Coelho announced the sale of 85 works by Joan Miró, an auction that should have happened at Christie’s London in February last year, the Socialist Party spoke out against this position. In addition to advocating the maintenance of parts in Portugal, the PS regretted how they had never been exposed. For the previous government, the exhibition of the works was never an option on the table, since the priority that these were sold “as soon as possible” in order to shoot down the LBW of the hole.

This just did not happen because the prosecutor objected, of course, for sale, taking the case to court, where they still run two processes. Entetanto this month 41 works of this group have completed ten years in Portugal, and can therefore be classified without the permission of their proprietérios the Parvalorem and Parups (companies created to bring down the debt BPN).
