FOLIO. The festival that promises to make us forget the chocolate begins today – iOnline

Óbidos was always chocolate. Obidos has always been medieval. Now, Obidos is also literature. Three years ago it began to be built Literary town of Obidos which, as of today, sees be writing your first paragraph. The FOLIO – Literary Festival Internacional de Obidos – presents a diverse and distinguished program which runs from today to 25 October, with a whirlwind of initiatives around four main themes: the 450th anniversary of the city of Rio de Janeiro, the 40 years of independence of the colonies, the poets of Orpheus and the Year of Light.

For the town of Obidos will spend about 200 Portuguese and Portuguese-speaking authors, among them are: João Paulo Cuenca, Ricardo Araújo Pereira, Gregory Duvivier, Mia Couto, Javier Cercas, among many others. The festival is divided into five main areas: FOLIO Authors, FOLIO Educa, FOLIO illustrates, FOLIO Parallel and Folia. Joseph Pine, curator of FOLIO Parallel, explains that only this separation is already in itself a surprise. “The fact that we have five areas is in itself something different. Then we have many literary sessions, concerts, cinema, theater, a lot of talk, a lot of today. So that programming is vast. I know some literary festivals around the world and would say this FOLIO will, if all goes well, the level of what I have seen throughout the world, “he said.

As always on these occasions – and refer to the website: foliofestival.com to understand – it’s difficult to tell you what to do, what initiatives go, task Joseph Pine consider something before a thankless “as homogeneous program “. Still, filled with courage and there gave their highlights: “highlight the collective exhibition that will be made at the New Gallery Warhead; also the opening concert with the Miúcha and Georgiana de Moraes, a daughter of Sérgio Godinho, one of Vinicius, who came from Brazil to make a tribute to Vinicius de Moraes. As well as the ‘Culture and What’s Coming’, a talk organized by António Pinto Ribeiro will have Ana Paulo Laborinho, Silvestre Lacerda and Catarina Vaz Pinto. “

Easy to understand what is around the Obidos village that creates this festival, as indeed, José Pinho confirms: “This first FOLIO is a showcase to demonstrate what is the Literary Village of Obidos we are building three years ago”. Let’s do it.
