Posthumous film by Manoel de Oliveira is released in Portugal – Globo.com

The city of Porto, where he was born filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira, killed in April to 106 years, watched late on Monday (4) to the premiere of his posthumous film “Visit or memory and confessions “.

The legendary director had asked the film, recorded in 1982 and delivered after the Portuguese Cinematheque, only to be shown after his death, except in a few private sessions.

This autobiographical feature film was screened at the municipal theater Rivoli, in the presence of the mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, director and nearby people.

On Tuesday there will be a new screening of the film in the Portuguese Cinematheque, in Lisbon, before his international debut at the Cannes Film Festival, the “Cannes Classics” section, in which are displayed restored films and documentaries on cinema and its protagonists.

According to the director of the Cinematheque, José Manuel Costa, the tape does not brings “no shocking revelation” about the author’s life, but it is “an authentic portrait, honest and direct man and his way of thinking,” he told AFP.

Grandmaster the Portuguese cinema, Manoel de Oliveira died on April 2. “Filming is my work and my passion. My life went too fast and have no time to lose,” he said, full of energy, a few years ago.
