Mathematician dies that inspired the movie “A Beautiful Mind” – Terra Brazil

The American mathematician and Nobel laureate John Nash, whose life inspired the Oscar-winning film “A Beautiful Mind,” died with his wife in US car crash.

The mathematician John Forbes Nash, who inspired the film A Beautiful Mind, died Sunday (24/05) in a car accident in the US state of New Jersey. He was in a taxi with his wife, Alicia, 82, who also died.

Life and the American mathematician fight against schizophrenia inspired film starring Russell Crowe and Oscar winner for Best Picture in 2002. Nash won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1994.

According to the spokesman of the local police, John Nash, 86, and his wife, 82, crashed into a taxi on a highway near the city of Monroe. Nash and his wife were thrown out of the car and died at the scene.

The couple took the taxi in a New York airport and was en route to his home in the university town of Princeton. Apparently, both were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The driver, however, survived the strike without serious injury. An overtaking maneuver, he crashed into a Freeway protective wall.

The mathematician and his wife were returning from a trip to Norway, where Nash received along with his colleague, Louis Nirenberg, King Harald the 5th Abel Prize for his achievements in mathematics. In 1994, the American was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for his research on the Game Theory.

The scientist fought for many years against schizophrenia. Your life and the fight against the disease were brought to the screen in the film A Beautiful Mind, winner of four Oscars in 2002.

Through his Twitter account, Russell Crowe, Hollywood actor who played the role of John Nash in the film, expressed his regret. “Shocked … My thoughts are with John and Alicia and family. A wonderful partnership. Minds brilliant, wonderful people.”
