Sextet Jazz Lisbon returns today with a concert at … – Digital Journal


 The Grand Auditorium of Culturgest in Lisbon hosts this Sunday’s return
 Sextet Jazz Lisbon after almost 30 years of silence. Later, Carlos Martins also left, joining Jorge Reis.

It was with the formation of Tomás Pimentel, Jorge Reis, Edgar Caramel, Mário Laginha, Pedro Barreiros Mário Barreiros and the SJL recorded his single disc:. “At the Meeting” in 1987

Formed by six young musicians (all under 30 years), the SJL dared to present own compositions at the expense of standards.

In 1985, the SJL played on the 15th Jazz Festival of Cascais and the 3rd Jazz Festival Macao, the International Jazz Federation ranked the Sextet in 10th place in list of “best European jazz groups’.

In 1986, the group has performed in Britain, particularly in the Barbican Centre in London, having achieved a sufficient success for a return in 1988 for a tour 10 concerts in seven days.

In 1987, the SJL acted at the Biennale of Arts of the Mediterranean countries in Barcelona. It was in that year that recorded their single record – “the Meeting” – which knows only vinyl edition

Now, SJL members who recorded the disc responded enthusiastically to the challenge by António Curvelo and. Manuel Jorge Veloso for a meeting. After the death of Jorge Reis, the remaining musicians decided to keep the project up as a tribute to fellow inviting Ricardo Toscano to your place.

The concert starts at 21:30 and tickets cost 15 euros for the general public and five euros for young people up to 30 years and unemployed.

The SJL is presented on 23 May at the Centro Cultural Vila Flor, in Guimarães, with tickets costing 10 euros .
