The painting “The Luncheon of the Trowel” iconic work of Portuguese neorealist movement, was sold at auction today in Lisbon by 350,000 euros, told Lusa source of auction Palace the Old Post Office.
According to the same source, the picture was bought by a private Portuguese who would not identify.
The painting was auctioned with a base bid of 300,000 euros, and there were several interested parties on this screen one of the most important of Júlio Pomar, 89, whose early career was linked to neo-realism’s claim in Portugal.
“The Luncheon of the Trowel” surpassed the record for a painting sold by value Palace Old mail, belonging to “the will” of Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro (1857-1929), sold for 309,255 euros in 2001.
This work is one of 23 created by Júlio Pomar that will be auctioned until Thursday -Thurs, of which eight original and 15 graphic works from the collection of Maria José Salvador and Manuel Torres, who died this year.
