The Book Fair of Lisbon, which kicks off today in the Eduardo VII Park, in Lisbon, and will last until June 14, this year has the ambition to be the biggest event in Portugal. In addition to a record of pavilions (271), marks (564), catering equipment (31) and initiatives (are planned over 1200), the expectation for this 85th edition is to have the largest ever number of visitors.

“Last year, we overcame the bar of half a million people. This year, it is our ambition and we believe we are all the conditions for that to happen, reach the 600 000″ more than any other event in the country, told CM Bruno Pires Pacheco, general secretary of the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers, responsible for organizing the fair.

But fundamental for this to happen is the weather, “Not too hot, not rain,” said the CM some of the participants yesterday ultimavam the pavilions. During 18 days, publishers and booksellers expect to increase sales by 50%.

As for the investment made for this edition, the Secretary-General of the APEL only said it was “significant ‘refusing to advance values. “Hundreds of thousands of euros, which translates into a fair better and more attractive, which is the highlight of the book world in Portugal,” concludes Pires Pacheco.
