The film “Aferim!”, The Romanian director Radu Jude , and “The Andrew’s eyes,” Antonio Borges Correia, were two of the winners of the 12th IndieLisboa, has today announced the festival’s closing independent cinema.
“Aferim!” A film about life in the former territories of Romania in the nineteenth century, was named best film in the international competition and also received the prize of the jury of film blogs.
Radu Jude, one of the directors of the new wave of Romanian cinema, had been distinguished in IndieLisboa with a short film in 2007 and “Aferim!” It earned him the best achievement award at the Berlin festival.
As best Portuguese feature film was voted “André’s eyes,” recreating a true-life drama played by the protagonists themselves. The director was interested in the story of a man, divorced, with three children who lives in Ponte da Barca and fight for custody of the room. It is this family who plays his story in the film.
“Andrew’s eyes” also received the prize of the jury “Tree of Life” and TAP.
With regard to short films, the international jury awarded “End of Summer” by Jóhann Jóhannsson and the Portuguese jury chose “Out of Life” by Filipa Reis and John Miller Guerra.
The documentary “The fear lurking” by Marta Pessoa, the climate of intimidation and repression in Estado Novo time, received the Amnesty International award.
The jury of the international federation of film critics (FIPRESCI) chose “Before we go,” Jorge Leon, while the IndieLisboa the public voted for “Wolf’s Lair” by Catarina Mourão “and” In Waking hours “by Katrien and Sarah Vanagt as best movies
