“Visit”: the resurrection of M. Night Shyamalan – Digital Journal

“The visit” marks the return of M. Night Shyamalan to resource-poor films, after the fiascos of ‘The Last Airbender’ and ‘After Earth’ for example. A return that deserves our applause.

It is true that “The visit” is not “The Sixth Sense”, the film that catapulted M. Night Shyamalan to world stardom, but it is not very far, since the director manages to skilfully keep the suspense throughout the film, and surprise the movie buff with another twist plot, one of the hallmarks of its cinematography.

“The visit”, there are two pillars that support the film:. is filmed as if it were a documentary and critical that the director is to own cinema

The synopsis is simple: two brothers will visit her grandparents on a farm in Pennsylvania. The older, Becca (Olivia DeJonge), decides to document this first meeting, as the brothers do not know the mother’s parents, who left the house of the parents when I was younger because of a passion. While the young “director” defend at all costs the “auteur” (although it also has a practical aim of his documentary), his brother Tyler (Ed Oxenbould) product generation Youtube rap lover, has no ethical problems in deceiving the movie buff.

“The visit” therefore comprises the weekend of the two young people. Immediately moviegoers perceive that there is something wrong with their grandparents at the same time near and far, especially at night, when recommending grandchildren not to leave the room after 21:30.

The realism that Shyamalan transmits, to make the film as if it were a documentary (a kind of “The Blair Witch Project ‘), is something really amazing, which makes the moviegoer is absorbed into the story with great ease. In addition, the suspense is given at the right time, something fundamental in this type of film.

Shyamalan does not offer a new “The Sixth Sense”, but offers much more than presented in his later works. And the winner is the spectator, which, it seems, can count again with the director, as many have thought that it was “dead.” But in a brilliant resurrection, Shyamalan shows that cinema is still part of you. For our happiness …
