Unprecedented film Oliveira celebrates passion for cinema – Daily News – Lisbon

Like all works of the truly original artists also the Manoel de Oliveira films (who died on April 2, had 106 years) will persist well beyond its creator. In the case of the author of titles like Aniki-Bóbó (1942), Francisca (1981) or Non or the Vain Glory of Command (1990) there is even a posthumous chapter that finally can be revealed .

Why revealed? Because it is a film that the director himself conceived as an object that would only make sense after his death spread visit or Memoirs and Confessions was completed in 1982 and will have now his first public views. The Port, hometown de Oliveira, will host the world premiere on Monday, June 4, in two sessions (18:30 and 21:30) at the Municipal Theater Rivoli; the next day in Lisbon, at the Cinematheque, the film will also be designed twice (21:45 and 23:15).

However, the Cannes Film Festival announced the presence of visit or Memories and Confessions in your classic section , in what will be the first presentation outside Portugal – the event takes place between 13 and May 24, with the film being projected on 22 (date to be confirmed). According to the official statement of “Cannes Classics” section, the special session resulted from Adelaide Climb agreement and Manuel Casimiro, daughter and filmmaker grandson, with the collaboration of José Manuel Costa and Rui Machado, respectively director and deputy director of the Cinematheque.
