Trevor Noah is Jon Stewart’s successor in ‘The Daily Show’ – Shifter

Jon Stewart, who in February announced he will leave the host chair of The Daily Show, already has successor. He’s young, is not a US or one of the best known members of the team of the news satire program. His name is Trevor Noah.

“It is a privilege to succeed Jon Stewart. In the short time I’ve been in the program, he made me feel very welcome. I am excited to start working with him and with his fantastic group of people “, says Noah in a press release.

South African comedian, 31, Trevor Noah will lead a program that has a permanent place in American television for 16 years. Born in South Africa during apartheid; the father is a white Swiss and the mother is a South African of Xhosa ethnicity.

Noah began to act in their 20s in their country-crib. Arrived in the United States in 2010, having participated since then in some of the major talk shows of late night television: The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2012; the Late Show with David Letterman in 2013; and The Daily Show in December last year to talk about the reality of a South African man in the United States.

Despite all its exposure, Noah is little known in the US, filling one that is perhaps one of Comedy Central’s requirements, the TV station owner of The Daily Show, to lead the program. Craig Kilborn, the first presenter (1996-1998), and Jon Stewart, the second host (1999 below), were at the time of his debut on the talk show almost anonymous in the eyes of the American public.

The choice of Noah caused, however, some surprise, for he had been talk in names like John Oliver or Stephen Colbert for Stewart succession. Or even Samantha Bee or Jessica Williams, which would bring a female figure for the late-night hours of American television.

“Trevor Noah is a huge talent. Has an insightful and unique point of view and, more importantly, is wickedly funny “, says Michele Ganeless, director of Comedy Central said in a statement. “For the next host of The Daily Show, looking for a fresh voice that could speak to our audience on the day’s events with a secure voice; we found that in Trevor. It has many number of followers out there and is about to explode here in America. We are thrilled to have it now on Comedy Central , “he adds.

Jon Stewart shares the same opinion. “It’s a comedian and a tremendous talent who loved working … In fact, I might want to return to the team [of the program] as corresponding only to be part of it !!!” , said in the same statement ( Jon Stewart will at least continue the program production).

You answered the question about Stewart’s successor. Is to answer one: when Noah enters the program
