Portugal out of the pre-selection for the Oscar for best picture … – publico

                 


                         
                     

                 

 
                         

It was not even this time the Portuguese cinema managed to enter the list of candidates for appointment to the Oscar for best foreign film by the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences of the USA. The documentary And now? Reminds me , which Portugal had submitted, was left out of the list of the nine shortlisted by the Academy of Hollywood announced the end-of-week movies.


                     


                         The list of competitors the appointment has Agentina productions ( Wild Tales , Damián Azifrón), Estonia ( Tangerines , Zaza Urushadze), Georgia ( Corn Island , George Ovashvili), Mauritania ( Timbuktu , Abderrahmane Sissako of), Netherlands ( Accused , Paula van der Oest’s), Russia ( Leviathan , Andrey Zvyagintsev), Sweden ( Force Majeure , Ruben Östlund) and Poland ( Return , Pawel Pawlikowski’s), the latter already commercially released in Portugal in last summer, and one of four lists of films are also nominated for the Golden Globes. The work of Pawel Pawlikowski was also distinguished this December, the European Parliament for the LUX Prize 2014 as European film of the year.

The final list of five nominees for this and the other categories Academy Awards will be known on 15 January, with the announcement ceremony and delivery of the golden statuettes scheduled for February 22 in Los Angeles.

Portugal not never managed to see a national production nominated for the category of best foreign film, despite its application, although not systematically, since in 1980 sent Morning Submerged , the adaptation performed by Antonio Lauro romance namesake of Virgil Ferreira.
