Film “Crime”, inspired by the death of Carlos Castro, debuts on … – RTP

First film of fiction Rui Filipe Torres, “Crime” will premiere at the Portuguese Cinematheque, Lisbon, January 7, the day that mark four years of the death of Carlos Castro, and later this month will take place the commercial debut.

The director, however, does not make a direct connection of the film to violent crime, which occurred in January 2011 in a hotel room, where Carlos Castro was murdered by Renato Seabra, with whom he had a relationship.

“It is not a recreation of what happened that night. It is a film about a love affair between a man with power, elderly, and a young man who wants to have access to that power. I felt an interest particularly for the possibility of tension between the two characters. The time of death is not what interests me, “he said.

“Crime” is a low-budget production, with a very small cast – with John d`Ávila, Ruben Garcia and Marina Albuquerque – and the story takes place over 24 hours in a hotel room. Culminating in a death.

Rui Filipe Torres explained that the argument is based on a play written by actor John d`Ávila – “has a brilliant interpretation, is a great gift on the screen” – which, in turn, was inspired by the violent murder of Carlos Castro .

In addition to the premiere of the film in January, should also happen to premiere the play.

Carlos Castro, social chronicler 65, died on January 7, 2011 in a room dde hotel in New York.

Renato Seabra, 20 year old, was sentenced to a term between 25 years and life imprisonment, being held in prison in Clinton in the state of New York, United States.
