Cavaco Silva praises Award winner Person 2014 – TVI24

The President congratulated on Friday the researcher Henrique Leitão, the Pessoa Prize 2014 winner, praising her “brilliant scientific and academic career.”

“Throughout a brilliant scientific and academic career, which has earned the recognition of their peers around the world, Professor Henrique Leitão distinguished himself as a scientist and historian of science, whose works have brought innovative perspectives on the contribution the Portuguese discoveries to the dissemination of knowledge in his time, “reads a message from the Head of State, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, the researcher Henrique Leitão.

In the letter, published in the ‘site’ of the Presidency of the Republic, Cavaco Silva remembers’ the breath of great work “of Henrique Leitão on the philosophy of science, the coordination of the publication of mathematical works of Pedro Nunes and highlights the role played in safeguarding and dissemination of historical and cultural heritage of the country.

“This award is not only a reward exception career to encourage future work that will be a milestone in the history of science in Portugal and an encouragement to all our researchers’ also refers to the President.

The winner of the 28th edition of the award was announced today at the Seteais Palace in Sintra, the president of the jury, Francisco Pinto Balsemão, which emphasized the work of the awarded as ‘historian of science’.

Also the Minister of Education and Science, Nuno Crato, praised Henrique Leitão recognizing a man early ‘fell in love with the history of science and research. ”
