Museums in the country with 11.1 million visitors in 2013 – Move News

The museums of the country recorded 11.1 million visitors in 2013, about one million more than in the previous year, according to data released this Tuesday, April 23, the National Statistics Institute (INE).

For statistical purposes, the INE considered 353 museums in the country, the areas of Art, Archaeology, Natural Sciences and History, Technique, Ethnography and Anthropology, and yet specialized, multidisciplinary and territory.

A total of 11,062,584 visitors were recorded last year, 995,700 more than in 2012, and the most visited were the History museums (2,786,350 visitors), followed by Art (2716169), specialized (1,774,447) and finally the Science and Technique (1231074).

of total visitors, 34.9% were foreigners (3.9 million) and 14.5% inserted visitors in school groups, more than half (51.4%) visited the temporary exhibitions and 35.9% came free.

With reference to the average annual number of visitors (31,000 people), the Ethnographic Museum and Anthropology and the Museum of Natural Sciences and Natural History presented the lowest average annual number of visitors, about seven thousand and 11 thousand, respectively.

According to the INE, the universe of museums analyzed had 23.1 million of goods in its collection and of this total, 27.8% were “goods bibliographic and archival “and 19.1%” archaeological property “.
