The unprecedented film by Manoel de Oliveira, “Visit or memories and confessions”, shot in 1982 to be shown publicly only after his death, will be displayed on 5 May in the Portuguese Film in Lisbon.
According to the programming of this entity prepared to May, the 68-minute film – with text of Agustina Bessa-Luís writer, and voices of Diogo Doria and Teresa Madruga – will appear at 21:30 of the day 5.
Manoel de Oliveira died on April 2, to 106 years, at his home in Porto.
According to the schedule of the Portuguese Cinematheque – Cinema Museum, “Visit or memories and confessions” remained unpublished for more than thirty years, maintained and preserved in the institution’s coffers, although there had been some “very strict exceptions “relating to private views.
Among them, has become a projection at the Cinematheque in 1993, in the context of the cycle “Oliveira: The Cult and the Hidden”, a presentation restricted, especially authorized by Manoel de Oliveira.
The Cinematheque also points out that the display ban broader public remained, “for reasons related to the shame involved in autobiographical exhibition”.
On the death of the filmmaker, José Manuel Costa, director of the Portuguese Film, told Lusa agency, revealed that the movie “begins as a reference to the house where he lived, who had to leave for events of your life. ” “It has a personal character that, because of this, he asked to be widely distributed after his death,” said José Manuel Costa.
According to him, Manoel de Oliveira intended to restrict the display after death, not because he wanted to hide any fact, but because it has to do with his life. “It’s a personal memory.”
