Agustina Bessa-Luís Eduardo Lourenço wins award – TVI24

The Agustina Bessa-Luís writer is the winner of the 11th edition of the prize Eduardo Lourenço, worth 7,500 euros. The announcement was made Friday in Guarda, with the rector of the University of Coimbra, João Gabriel Silva, at the end of the jury meeting.

Set up by the Iberian Studies Center (ERC) in 2004, the prize is intended to reward individuals or institutions with relevant intervention under the cooperation and Iberian culture.

According to João Gabriel Silva, jury spokesman, the Agustina Bessa-Luís writer is “one of the finest examples of Portuguese Literature, but in the universal reality of the twentieth century.”

The jury of the 11th edition of the Eduardo Lourenço Prize was established by the ERC direction of members ( Town Hall of the Guard, represented by culture councilor Victor Amaral, University of Coimbra, represented by the Rector, and the University of Salamanca, represented by the vice-rector), the scientific and executive committees of the CIS and the guests Justo, Peter Bringue the Amaral and José Luis Puerto.

At the annual award, which is named after the essayist Eduardo Lourenço, mentor and honorary president of CEI, were this year presented 21 applications.

The Prize Eduardo Lourenço had its first edition in 2004 and has distinguished several personalities relief of Portugal and Spain.

Previous editions contemplated Maria Helena da Rocha Pereira (Full Professor of Greco-Latin Culture, Agustín Remesal (journalist), Maria João Pires (pianist), Angel Campos Pampano (poet), Jorge Figueiredo Dias (teacher Professor of Criminal Law), César Antonio Molina writers and Mia Couto, José María Martín Patino (theologian), Jerónimo Pizarro (teacher and researcher) and Antonio Sáez Delgado (teacher and researcher).
