Municipal council reissues the “Christmas in Lisbon”, with ten concerts in ten different spaces and ateliers for children up to day 17. Later today, the Church of St. Nicholas receives the Youth Choir of the Institute Gregorian. Free entry to all events
it Is already this afternoon that takes place the second concert of the initiative, Christmas in Lisbon, organized by the municipality. From 16.00 in the Church of St. Nicholas (Street of Silver), the Children’s Choir of the Institute Gregorian Lisbon presents a program covering very varied, which we highlight in The Boy Jesus in the story to-use interface, the Portuguese Alfredo Teixeira (n. 1965), the winning project in 2013 of the 3.° International Prize of Composition Fernando Lopes-Graça.
Christmas in Lisbon tore off yesterday evening, in the Church of São Vicente de Fora, and continues for the next two weeks, until the day 17, all the free events, of course subject to the capacity of the venues. Each concert occurs in a different space, being that this year there are some novelties in this domain, such as the concert of Wednesday, August 7 (21.30), which is held at the Capitol Theatre (Park, Meyer), renovated and newly returned to the city; and the concert of the 15th day, which is held in the lobby of the arrivals from Lisbon Airport (from 19.30) and will be led by the excellent Choir Children and Youth of the University of Lisbon (CIUL), that combines singing and movement in their performances, directed by Erica Mandillo.
But, as usual, are the churches the spaces majority: in addition to the two already mentioned, the other five temples, welcome sounds christmas: São Roque (day 9, 21.30), the Church of the Colégio de São João de Brito (Lumiar), on the following day (16.00); Church of Grace (day 11, also at 16.00), st. Augustine of Marvila (near the Factory for the Arm of Silver, on the 16th, at 21: 30) and, on the closing night the São Domingos (day 17, 21.30).
you need only refer, to complete the list, the São Jorge Cinema, the setting for the second concert the position of groups from the Music School of the National Conservatory (day 13, at 21: 30).
in Addition to the concerts, there is this year a workshop/workshop for children, which takes place today, and days 8 and 11, at 11 in the morning; and day 17, at 15.00. Is this workshop, which is held at the Museum of Lisbon-Santo António (next to the Santo António Church, the Cathedral), build a nativity scene in cork, with the model of the crib of Greccio (near Rome), famously created by St. Francis of Assisi. In addition, be counted the children some aspects of the life of Santo António, as for example his miracles.
These workshops are free, requiring only prior registration through the mail servicoeducativo@museudelisboa.pt.
When speaking of concerts of Christmas, we all hope more or less what listen to, but the program this year has an exception to this expectation: the event titled Fado Lyric, which will bring together on stage the singer Teresa boarded up, the soprano Filipa Lopes and the pianist Pedro Vieira de Almeida.
Also worth a reference to the concert of the 9th, in São Roque, in charge of grouping the Musicians of the river Tagus, chiefly by the rarity of the repertoire to the present: a selection of Cantigas de Santa Maria, the famous compilation of songs marians in iberia, organized by king Alfonso X, of Castile and Leon (THIRTEENTH century), using the language galaico-Portuguese, and that is one of the jewels of the repertory of medieval europe. Marcos Magalhães will drive a sextet of singers (and some more for the refrães), which will be accompanied by double bass, violin, percussion, the ancient lute of the Arabic rabab (a lute-the afghan). In addition, it is, to Marcos Magalhães and his ensemble, a debut in repertoire so indented in time.
The closing of this cycle happens on the night of the 17th, in the scenario always impressive Church of São Domingos. Ali will be performing with the Choir and Orchestra Symphonic of the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, under the direction of Vasco Azevedo, in the works of Schumann, Brahms and, to conclude, the magnificent hymn Lauda Sion, op. 73, for soloists, chorus and orchestra of Felix Mendelssohn, on the text of St. Thomas Aquinas, one of the masterpieces of religious music of German Romanticism.
