Silence, the Cornucopia came out of the scene with full house and a recital – Express

the Lights of the scene ready, scenario prepared, the audience full, and silence. A brief compass of time and Luís Miguel Cintra, one of the founders of Teatro da Cornucópia, says the first words of Guillaume Apollinaire.

The texts of the French poet were chosen for the recital that took place this Saturday at the Teatro da Cornucópia, in Lisbon, and that marked the end of the activity of the theatre company, founded 43 years ago.

The Cornucopia announced on Friday that it would close doors, justifying the decision with the fact that the theater company disagrees with the current models of management.

“we Think that, over these years, we have done a lot and less evil, but also we believe to already be at the age to dare to say that we do not know nor do we want to adapt the management models that have more difficulty in habituaríamos to comply. This would do evil. Perhaps it is time to stop the activity,” could be read in the statement released on Friday by the theater.

An hour before 16: 00, the scheduled start time of the recital, free entry to a queue of more than a hundred people was visible next to the doors of the theatre, in the neighborhood of Principe Real.

Not all were able to attend the recital, which was attended by actors and musicians that have worked over the years with the company. Already went on the show, and another hundred people awaited entry into the 'hall' of the theatre.

With a capacity of 115 seats (visibly outdated), the room of the Theater of the Cornucopia was filled with an audience intergenerational, included several children, and some of the notable. The watch in the first queue were names like Edite Estrela (member of parliament, socialist), Rui Vieira Nery (musicologist), Augusto M. Seabra (columnist and critic), Rita Blanco (actress), and Leonor Xavier (journalist and writer).

On stage, a grand piano, a pulpit, blue, an alignment of chairs and a wooden table covered by the words of Guillaume Apollinaire, one of the most important activists in the cultural avant-garde of the early TWENTIETH century, echoed by the voices of the various actors present, they also represent several generations.

To break the silence and the concentration, the entry of the actress Márcia Breia on the scene, and the hug long and emotional Luís Miguel Cintra, who founded the Teatro da Cornucópia in 1973, with Jorge Silva Melo. In 1975, he moved to the Theatre of Bairro Alto (the old Centre of Amateurs of the Ballet), where he remained up to the present.

over four decades, the Cornucopia has focused mainly on the dramaturgy of contemporary, “with the intention of building a theatre of reflection, with an active role in the cultural reality of the Portuguese”, as it reads in the 'site' of the theatre group.

Put-if the plays of Shakespeare, Tchekov, Molière, Genet, Pasolini, Strindberg, Holderlin, Brecht, Garcia Lorca, but also Gil Vicente, Camões, Almeida Garrett and António José da Silva.

Account, the second sets out the theater, "126 creations in history, three world premieres, 25 dramatic texts Portuguese, dozens and dozens of actors of all generations, directors, guests, shows, hosted, and coproduced”.

This Saturday was also launched in the second volume of the book “Teatro da Cornucópia – Shows from 2002 to 2016″, which brings together information on the 52 creations, and the DVD of the show “End of quote”, Joaquim Pinto and Nuno Leonel.

And also this Saturday, a petition 'online' to defend the status of the Theater of the Cornucopia as a national heritage and challenging the end of the theater company has already gathered more than 460 signatures.
