Musician acts the 16 of July on the beach of Cabedelo in Gaia
The british musician Sting is the headliner of the last day of the issue of the 2017 festival spring Tides, which will take place between 14 and 16 July in the Cabedelo beach, Gaia, has today been announced.
Sting, which became known as the lead singer of The Police, the band that he formed with Setwart Copeland and Andy Summers in 1977, is the first name of the poster of this three-day festival, being that this week will be known two artists who will work in Gaia.
In a press conference, Jorge Lopes, director of the Enp Entertainment — Arts & Entertainment, said today in the morning, “it was a” Sting “there are two or three years.”
“I don’t know if it was a question of the poster from last year somehow have convinced, the truth is that this year turned out to be easy to” achieve the presence of Sting at the festival, where it will act on the last day of MEO Marés Vivas.
Due to the agenda of the british artist, who could only act in Cabedelo on July 16, this year, the spring Tides will take place between Friday (the 14th) and Sunday (day 16), and not between Thursday and Saturday, as in previous editions.
According to Jorge Lopes, this festival has had a degree of success very similar over the years, until by the limitations of growth in terms of the public”, and for the editing of 2017 it is expected that “is equal to, above all, without problems”, as has happened in previous editions.
As to the location of the event, that in the last edition caused controversy, “will be the same.”
The mayor of Gaia, Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues, said that, “it is a pride for Gaia and for the region” have a Sting in the poster of the festival.
“name Is a reference to the world,” he said, considering that “fits perfectly in the model of the festival”.
As to the location of the spring Tides, the mayor said that this is “one of the festivals of greater respect for the environment”, that “we do not performs in any environmental reserve, unlike the other” and that the disagreements that have occurred with environmentalists “were very punctual, unfortunately very customized”.
“But we realized that the festival is worth more than these small guerilla warfare,” he stressed, adding that the municipality will support the Tides 2017, with about 250 thousand euros, an investment that is similar to the one given this year and that it is “relatively small for what you after in terms of benefits and return”.
In this year’s edition, the Tides returned to its original location, near the Praia do Cabedelo, after the end of 2015 the authority has disclosed that the summer festival would have to change the location, choosing a new space next to the reserve of the Estuary of the river Douro.
This option, which turned out not to avenge, has led to criticism from environmentalists and the presentation of two injunctions by Quercus.
One of the lawsuits of the Oak led to the suspension of the works of preparing the ground for the festival, delaying the first step of the preparation of the new Urban Park in the Municipal and preventing the mounting of timely equipment.
