Mexefest. The music started in the dark – Daily News – Lisbon

Many queues and crowded concerts. The Vodafone Mexefest began the custom of boiling

It was completely dark that started another edition of Mexefest. The Vodafone Blackout Room, where several artists will perform at the pitch in small shows of 15 minutes, is one of the big news this year and, given the queues that early on formed the Cinema São Jorge port to listen to US Akua Naru, will also be one of the biggest hits of the poster of this year.

Fifteen minutes later, at eight, drew simultaneously Brazilian concerts the January (House of Alentejo), and the Portuguese El Salvador (São Jorge Cinema) and Greyhound (Rossio Station), which gave the starting shot for a marathon of concerts and respective pilgrimages between the different rooms, some of them quite crowded – as happened from very early in the Church of San Luigi dei Francesi, where the queue with several tens of meters, to see the intimate folk of London Anna B. Savage, left on edge to many of those present. Looser, though equally well made public, was the concert Tó Trips on the beautiful room of the Geographical Society, which came accompanied by John Sweet, drummer and percussionist of Wraygunn, which further the already filled him quite dense compositions of guitar player. However, a little further up in the garage of EPAL, the Portuguese Cave Story also had full house, such as the US American Akua Naru, the Rossio Station, where all who had no opportunity to “see” in the dark, could now watching live and in color all the different shades of his music and poetry.

This constant choice and stampede between the different stages is perhaps the greatest hallmark of the festival, whose counterpoint the ever annoying queues, often at the must-see concert. And if it does not even enter, the advantage is that there is always something more to happen. And by the way always lies someone’s name or discovers another hidden corner of the capital – as that girl with gothic air to the entrance of the Tó Trips concert, pulled euphoric her friend’s coat sleeve, comparing the Company’s room Geography of the Hogwarts school of magic of Harry Potter …

Many hours before beginning the concerts, the festival was already in motion, not in the axis of the Avenida da Liberdade, but in Principe Real, the Ring of the Old Royal College of Nobles, part of the Museum of Natural History and Science, which in this second edition appears for the first time in Mexefest integrated program. Organized by St. Anthony’s Parish Council, in collaboration with the journalist and editor Rui Miguel Abreu, brings together the leading national independent publishers, a true fair of music, she also with many concerts to the mix. “This connection to Mexefest makes perfect sense, because the independent music is something that from the beginning is part of the DNA of this festival. On the other hand, it is very important this exchange of experiences between different publishers, in addition, of course, the discs that are sold “(the festival wristband holders have 10 per cent discount on all purchases), highlights Rui Miguel Abreu also responsible for curating” Science Rhythmic Advanced “which will animate during the festival, the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace Foz, the sound of the new generation of national hip-hop. “I really wanted to see Roots Manuva, but as the concert was canceled, I must get me the Palácio Foz” he said.

Most of the public, however, preferred to go see the British Benjamin Clementine the Coliseum the Recreios where today also operate two of the most anticipated names of this Mexefest:. Ariel Pink and Patrick Watson
