Culture creates wealth for the country – Move News


 
 

 

The results of the first Satellite Account of Culture show that cultural economic activities generated wealth for the country. The data – which are from today available in INE website on the Internet – show that the sector generated between 2010 and 2012, 2.7 billion in Gross Value Added in the Portuguese economy, overcoming the food industry, agriculture and safe.

The Secretary of State for Culture, Jorge Barreto Xavier, stressed that the 2.7 billion euros of cultural returns were recorded in the three years of economic crisis, which allows to foresee an increase that number a future satellite account.

The economic activities related to culture together 2.2% of total national compensation and 2% of employment, representing 88,000 people. “In practical terms, remuneration in the field of culture is, on average, higher than the average compensation of the Portuguese economy,” he said, based on the INE document.

The data shows that it is in the audiovisual and multimedia I earn more (50.9% above the national average). At the other extreme are the visual arts, where he earns a salary 12.5% ​​below the average.

But the industry of books and publications is employing more people, 36.6% of the total and which generates more wealth, 33.2%. Audiovisual and multimedia follows (11.7% and 22.6% in the same order). Only 13.9% of cultural units were the book publishing industry and 5.1% are audiovisual and multimedia. One-third of the 66,000 analyzed cultural entities are the arts and entertainment.
