September 11th Victim identified 13 years later – The Ball

Patrice Braut, a victim of the September 11th 2001 attacks, only this Tuesday was formally identified, according to the services of Forensic Medicine of New York.

A Belgian citizen, at the time aged 31, was one of 2753 people missing in the attacks in which two planes hit the towers of the World Trade Center, which collapsed later.

The identification of Patrice Braut was based on new DNA tests on body parts collected at the site where he was the World Trade Center, between 2001 and 2002 but only 60 percent of the missing have been identified to date, a total of 21 906 human pieces.

The tests are still performed only because promises were made to families. Thirteen years later, scientific advances do allow identifications that were not possible at the time of the attacks.
