SAO PAULO, Brazil (Folhapress) – The British Film Institute announced on Tuesday (3) the discovery in his “Sleigh Bells” collection, short animated Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks lost since 1928 when it was first shown.
With six minutes long, the film brings Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (Rabbit Osvaldo in Portuguese), the first Disney character-with longer ears, it resembles the iconic Mickey. According to British newspaper “The Guardian”, the film reached the BFI’s collection for 34 years, part of a batch purchased from Soho, dating back to 1931. Without more information, the institution did not identify the rarity. “There’s a hundred things called ‘Sleigh Bells’” said his spokesman.
In total, the archive has about one million items, making it impossible for the organization to watch them all. “The film demonstrates the vitality and Disney animation imagination at a crucial point in his early career,” said Robin Baker, chief curator of the BFI National Archive.
The short film will be shown on December 12 in London, 87 years after its release.
