Premiere today in Culturgest, The Party (bickering) by the Company Paulo Ribeiro, the work that marks 20 years of joint activity.
“I want to celebrate (…) to give substance to the utopia,” said Paulo Ribeiro in a press release.
“(…) The creative process is almost always distressing, but also festive. Inevitably we celebrate all of our physical and mental possibilities. There is always a delivery beyond us. There are always surprises, there’s always party !!!!! There is always a ritual dimension that transforms us, that gives life altering, that brings us closer to each other.
And this is my party. I want to celebrate to give body to the inner and secret motivations. Give substance to the utopia, the expectation, the desire to create a platform of understanding and complicity. And this is not limited to the enclosed area of the stage. It extends to all who are present, whether passive or active. (…) “
Natural Lisbon, Paulo Ribeiro began a career as a dancer in several Belgian and French companies. The debut as choreographer took place in 1984 in Paris, under the Stridanse company, which he co-founded. Back in Portugal, in 1988, he began collaborating with the Lisbon Dance Company and the Ballet Gulbenkian. Its choreographer’s career expanded internationally, since 1991, with the creation of works for renowned companies such as Nederlands Dans Theater II, Grand Théâtre de Genève or Centre choregraphique of Nevers, among others.
In 1995, he founded the Company Paulo Ribeiro. Working with his own company allowed him to better develop their personal language as a choreographer. Throughout his career, he has won several prominent awards such as the “Prix d’Auteur” in V Rencontre Internationales de Seine-Saint Denis (France); the “New coreography Award”, attributed by Bonnie Bird Fund Laban Centre (Great Britain); the “Prix d’Interpretation Collective”, awarded by ADAMI (France); or the Bordallo of the Press House Prize (2001), among others.
The choreographer has even dedicated to training, guiding several workshops in Portugal, but also in countries where the company has been present. He taught the discipline of Choreographic Composition under the Master in Contemporary Choreography Creation of specialty, sponsored by the Dance School, and taught at the Dance School of the National Conservatory
The Feast (bickering) of Paulo Ribeiro, debuts today in the Grand Auditorium of Culturgest at 21.30 and repeated Saturday. Tickets cost 12 euros or 5 euros for the unemployed and young people up to 30 years.
This work will also be presented at the Teatro Viriato 18 and December 19 and the National Theatre of St. John 18-20 February 2016.
