Ricardo Mealha (1968-2015) – Correio da Manhã

Portuguese Designer died at 47 a victim of prolonged illness.

The graphic designer and art director Ricardo Mealha died Sunday morning at age 47, victim of prolonged illness, told the Lusa a friend.

Born in Lisbon on October 22, 1968, had you been diagnosed, “for more than a year, a brain tumor,” added the same source.

Ricardo Mealha was responsible for the graphic image of the Ministry of Culture and various agencies and services linked to it. Among the various projects developed during his career, was designer and creative director of the chain of 14 hotels Tivoli, Atlantis Crystal, the Area shops, the Museum of Design and Fashion, the Presidency of the Republic Museum and the House of Stories Paula Rego.

In 2001, the designer created the design studio RMAC Brand Design, which sold five years later to BBDO Portugal group.

Since 1997, Ricardo Mealha was awarded more than 80 prizes in international national competitions, which includes the Gold Award Winner and 12 nominations at the International Forum Design, Germany.

Government regrets the death
The secretary of State for Culture, Jorge Barreto Xavier, expressed, on behalf of the Government and, sorrow for the death of Ricardo Mealha, considering it “one of the most talented and creative ‘designers’ of his generation”.

Ricardo Mealha received more than 80 national and international awards in two-decade career and argued that “marriage must be a right” to all citizens.

“There were several national and international distinctions that has accumulated throughout his career, however, the most important recognition is to know that in an area as dynamic as the graphic design, many of his works, after decades, linger and deserve the trust of brands and institutions with whom he worked, “adds the secretary’s note of Culture.

Jorge Barreto Xavier ends the statement presenting his condolences to family, friends and all those who in some way shared their life and work.
