Portuguese André Carrilho wins World Press Cartoon 2015 – TVI24

The Portuguese André Carrilho won the Grand Prix of World Press Cartoon (WPC) 2015, with a picture on the Ebola virus, announced Saturday the organization at a ceremony in Cascais.

The cartoonist’s drawing, published in the Daily News newspaper August 10, 2014, illustrates how the virus is seen by the Social Communication outside Africa.

The jury justified the premium referring to the design of André Carrilho “not only exposes the problem of a devastating disease but above all denounced the double standards of the European and American press before the origin of the victims” .

At the time, the cartoon Portuguese was analyzed and commented in several newspapers and shared on social networks.

The Ebola virus and the World Cup in Brazil were the main outstanding issues in this year’s World Press Cartoon, which in 2013 abandoned Sintra and will now be held in Cascais, with a Grand Prize of established 10 000 euros.

In the category of “Caricature”, the winner was the Brazilian Cau Gomez by a caricatured portrait of the footballer Messi and Pope Francisco, while the second prize was awarded to Dalcio (Brazil) who portrayed the musician David Bowie, and the third prize went to Riber (French).

“Humor Design”, the first prize was awarded to the Greek Michael Kountouris, Big winner of 2013 edition of the Prize, an untitled caricature, but having two men holding two posters with fish different sizes.

In the “Editorial”, which gave the victory to the Portuguese André Carrilho, in second place was the Tchavdar Bulgarian and thirdly, the Ukrainian cost.

The jury that selected the works integrated António Antunes (Portugal), Agim Sulaj (Albania), Xaquin Marin Formoso (Spain), Firoozeh Mozaffari (Iran) and Augusto Cid (Portugal).
