Helia Correia dedicated writer Camões Prize to Greece “without which … – RTP


 “I want to dedicate this award to Greece, without which we would have nothing. Viva Greece,” said the writer, at the end of his speech.
 

 The Camões Prize was awarded to Helia Correia unanimously last June, in recognition of its “universal aspect, by the way explores human nature in its various aspects, by giving attention to the real world,” as stated in height Lusa the president of the jury, the researcher Rita Marnoto.

 When he received this award, Helia Correia recalled the universal teachings of antiquity and its importance for today: “To see everything that existed in classical Greece, where everything was made by man for man and the measure of man.”
 

 The Camões Prize was instituted by Portugal and Brazil as a way to recognize authors “whose work contributes to the projection and recognition of the Portuguese language literature around the world,” according to the organization.
 

 The first awarded in 1989, was the Portuguese writer Miguel Torga.
 

 The jury of the 27th edition of the Camões Prize had Marnoto Rita, a professor at the University of Coimbra, Pedro Mexia, literary critic and writer, Innocence Mata, a professor at the universities of Lisbon and Macau, and by Affonso Romano writers Sant`Anna António Carlos Secchin and Mia Couto.
