SPA expresses regret at the death of the writer Maria Isabel Barreno – Daily News – Lisbon

The direction of the Portuguese Authors Society (SPA) mourned today the death, at 77, the writer Maria Isabel Barreno, one of the authors in 1972 the book “New Portuguese Letters”, with Maria Teresa Horta and Maria of Old Coast.

the writer and researcher died on Saturday, taking the cremation ceremony passed on Sunday at the Cemetery groves in Lisbon.

born in Lisbon on 10 July 1939, graduated in History and Philosophy Sciences in the Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon, Maria Isabel Barreno was a great defender of women’s rights.

After the publication of the work, the authors were tried, and all ended with the acquittal, since after the Revolution of April 25, 1974, and the work has to be seen not only as a treaty on the rights of women in Portugal but, more than that, as ” a libel against all forms of oppression, “as described the writer Ana Luisa Amaral in 2010, when the work was reissued by Sextant, with his notes.

Maria Isabel Barreno worked at the National Institute of Industrial Research , was a journalist and Cultural Councillor for Teaching Portuguese in France and published 24 titles, including romance and research in Sociology.

He received several awards, including the Prize Fernando Dating, the novel Report Time (1991), and the Prize Camilo Castelo Branco and the Prize Pen Club Portuguese Fiction, the storybook the Senses Unusual (1993), and in 2004 was made Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry.

Wind Voices , about the history of the ancestors of his father in Cape Verde, it was the last novel published in 2009 , after a break of 15 years in writing during which developed activities in other artistic fields, including the arts, with several design exhibitions and tapestry. Then, in 2010, also edited the book of short stories Secret Corridors (followed by “Motes and Glosses”).
