Mark Knopfler in EDPcooljazz – yet there Alchemy – Digital Journal

Full house at Oeiras Municipal Stadium for the return of Mark Knopfler to Portugal in another stage of EDPCoolJazz Festival. Despite having a new album, the concert was well balanced between latest solo disc, getting the second half reserved for glorious passages by some of the greatest songs of Dire Straits.

Once you have gone through Alvalade and Faro with Dire Straits, Knopfler has visited Porto, Cascais, twice the Atlantic Pavilion and twice the Campo Pequeno. The return was in Oeiras where he gave his concert in his own name with more balanced alignment and well done. Visibly good mood, very communicative and secure that musical choices for this tour did not disappoint fans or even occasional nostalgic.

Despite having released a new album recently, Mark has already signed more solo albums than with Dire Straits, the concert is not focused on new issues. The first half of the night is dedicated to three songs of each of the last two records.
“Broken Bones” of “Tracker” opens the best way to align the following with three of the penultimate disk songs, the double ‘privateering’. “Corned Beef City”, “privateering” and “Hill Farmer’s Blues.” A sequence that shows the excellence of the musicians who accompany Mark, a journey through sounds as close to blues, folk and country as the Celtic environments punctuated by flute or bagpipes and violins. Then back to “Tracker” to play “Skydiver”, which showed commitment to have the audience to sing with him. Knopfler had never seen so proud of a new composition as tonight. “Jokes and Laughs and Drinks Smokes and” closed the trip by the two most recent records. Through not lost a visit to bag a wonderful instrumental recovery “Father and Son” recovered from the soundtrack of Cal 1984.

Time to delight fans with immediate start for «Romeo and Juliet» and her silver guitar to glow. Without breaks and longer with the red and white guitar to finish this first pass by Dire Straits, attack on the anthem “Sultans of Swing”. Mobile phones to high, heads down and some air guitar to accompany the theme to be largely responsible for Knopfler continue to fill stadiums in 2015.
The vocal accompaniment of the public to saxophone notes in “Your Latest Trick” proves the correctness of the choice of the theme of the famous album “Brothers in Arms”.

With the conquered audience, Mark Knopfler left for the last three songs before the encore. Promoted two songs from the oldest solo albums that have long asked to be among the great classical guitarist. “Postcards From Paraguay”, the album ‘Shangri-La’, is as slow introduction to individual presentation of the band. In growing starts to own instrumental tropical party of a summer night.
It follows “Speedway at Nazareth”, of “Sailing to Philadelfia”, a powerful instrumental ride that is just asking for the entry of the epic “Telegraph Road”, worthy of close alignment in style.

The encore was another candy for the nostalgic, “So Far Away” in monotone version and an instrumental end with the grand “Going Home: Theme From Local Hero”.

There was no «Brothers in Arms ‘or’ What it Is ‘usual attendance in previous alignments but we were gaining with the interpretation of’ Yout Latest Trick “and” Telegraph Road “to sound better than ever. The same can not be said of “Sultans of Swing” or “So Far Away”, for example, to lose pedaling over time, but always dignified.

The path of 66 years, Mark Knopfler It is flawless on stage and almost reached perfection in balanced choice of an alignment where you realize you have so many classic solo and those who left in dire straits. This achievement is only available to some
