David Bowie just found out that her cancer was in terminal stage three months before he died. This is one of the revelations of a documentary about the last years of the life of the musician, which will be broadcast on Saturday, by the BBC, a day prior to your anniversary date.
The movie is called "David Bowie: The Last Five Years" ("David Bowie: The Gaspf Five Years") and reveals that the musician has discovered that the doctors were going to stop the treatments when I was already filming the man who would be his last music video, for the song "Lazarus".
Now, this lie for the land of the theories more shared by fans after his death: that the idea for the video clip, in which the musician is lying in a hospital bed, it was associated with the disease and with the fact that Bowie know that she was dying.
Johan We, the director of "Lazarus" in this documentary that the idea for the video had already been discussed a week before Bowie gets the final diagnosis.
"The David said: 'I just want a simple video, pure performance'. And I immediately said: 'the song is called Lazarus, you should be in a bed'. The idea had to do with the strand of biblical the song, not with the fact that he will be ill," explains We.
The director also explains that, only in the week in which you were shooting, is that Bowie discovered that the doctors were going to stop the treatments.
"I Found out later that, in the week that we were shooting the video, you said you would stop the treatments and that the disease had won."
But even then, even after the disease have won, Bowie did not give up the fight against death. This is the conviction of Ivo Van Hove, the director of the musical, “Lazarus”, made from the compositions of the singer.
Van Hove recalls one of the last conversations he had with the singer of "Life on Mars", after the piece premiered in New York city.
"I Am convinced that he was fighting against death and that he wanted to continue and continue. After all, we were backstage and he said ' let’s start a second, the sequel to Lazarus'."
The documentary "David Bowie: The Last Five Years" is a production of the BBC, by Francis Whately. As the name indicates, focuses on the last years of the life of the musician, including the last album, "Blackstar", released days before his death, and its predecessor “The Next Day” (2013).
The death of Bowie, one of the greatest icons of popular culture, the 10 of January of last year, shocked the world. The artist "the chameleon" had just shared the news that he was sick, with cancer in the liver, with the close friends.
If it were alive, Bowie would 70 years next Sunday.
