The success of “Blurred Lines” resulted in injury to Pharrell … – Express

Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke were sentenced Tuesday to pay $ 7.4 million (approximately EUR 6.8 million) to the daughters of singer Marvin Gaye, for having plagiarized the song ” Got To Give It Up “, which dates from 1977, to create the hit 2013″ Blurred Lines “(hear both songs at the end of the text).

The verdict was given by a Los Angeles court, after eight days of trial and two of deliberation to establish if there was some similarity between the two songs. The conclusion was that there was a violation, as they were copied “parts” of the Marvin Gaye song.

According to the British newspaper “The Guardian”, Nona Gaye – one of the late singer daughters in 1984 – began to cry upon hearing the verdict and in the end said that felt “free of Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke.”

The “Guardian” also said that the lawyer Gaye family, Busch, accused the two musicians are lying about how “Blurred Lines” was created. During the trial, Busch explained that the songs are identical regarding the use of bass, keyboards and structure. The newspaper “Los Angeles Times” said that a musical expert found similarities in eight elements of the songs, not specifying which.

But the family of Gaye wants to go further. Intends to withdraw the market song.

To Thicke, there are several similar songs

During the trial, Thicke told the jury – composed of five women and three men – who was not present when “Blurred Lines” was written. CNN says the singer also showed the jury that many songs can easily have similarities, even inadvertently, to sing songs like “With Or Without You” (U2), “Let It Be” (The Beatles), “Forever Young” (Alphaville), “No Woman No Cry” (Bob Marley) and “Man In The Mirror” (Michael Jackson). This argument, however, did not convince the jury.

Have Pharrell Williams stated that wrote the song in just one hour and was inspired by the songs of Marvin Gaye, who are part of the “band sound “of his life. But he said “the last thing you want to do as a creator is to take something else,” said the singer.

For the musician 41, “Blurred Lines” contains only an evocation of the “ soul” 70.

The song of two musicians of R & B is a success and has raised over $ 16 million (approximately EUR 14 million) since its launch. According to the television channel CNN, Pharrell Willimans earned 5.2 million dollars (4.8 million euros) with “Blurred Lines” while Robin Thicke won 6 million (€ 5.5 million). The IT singer, who also participated in music, was free of any charge, as well as Interscope Records label.
