The Letter George RR Martin wrote to Marvel – IGN Portugal

A Reddit user posted a letter that promises love the writer’s work fans of George RR Martin, and comic-book Marvel.

the author of a Song of Ice and Fire ” sent a targeted text Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1964, the purpose of a detected inconsistency in the Fantastic Four series.

the passionate reader of only 16 complained of a related arc Red Ghost ( ‘Red Ghost’), whose conclusion was ignored by writers who continued the story of the character later without explanation for what had happened though.

below can find the image with the original text (in English), followed by translation to Portuguese.

“Another month, another set of classics, naturally coming from you. Fantastic Four # 29 was sublime once again, with the beautiful art of Kirby-Stone, which lent the right amount of impact to Stan text. regarding the last panel on page 11, could celebrate it all day and not exhaust my words. When my little eyes crashed, voracious, as there was, hydrogen bombs exploded in my brain, leaving me gaping at the sheer magnificence of it all. Please do not do this often, the unless you want to die young! I must say, however, I found a flaw in what otherwise would be a perfect work of art, a fault that unfortunately is very common in you. When we saw the Red Ghost last in Fantastic Four # 13, I was trapped on the moon, being chased by three powerful gorillas invaded hateful and threatening him with paralyzing ray Mr. Fantastic.

Now, suddenly, bring it back, with full control over the Gorillas and without a single explanation. It is not the first time we recover a villain without explaining how it happened. They did it with the ‘Puppet Master’ in Fantastic Four # 8 A scientist can not tell whether someone is alive or dead, but is bright enough to return with a spectacular-ray-cosmic-radioactive-super-amplified at the time certain! In conclusion, I wish you luck with the next editions, but Stan, no more tires returns top hat of villains. Next time, tell us what happened, okay? ok!

George RR Martin.

If this is not enough to leave you embarrassed by your writing ability at 16, not estranhem, the letter was so impact on Stan Lee, the legendary writer of Marvel replied directly to Martin. Again, following the original image, then translation.

“Wow! Our faces are stained! Do you want the truth, George? We by FORGET where we had left the Red Ghost, and had no time to investigate the previous numbers because the print department pressed us to deliver the material within the time! Now, imagine that we offered a generous non-prize for the player who achieved best explanation for the fact that he had saved? (This would entitle the award for “underhanded editor” of the year!)

of course, the last part of the answer is just Stan Lee playing with the situation by relieving the fact that it was against the wall for such a young boy.

the most surprising of this story, more than articulativas capabilities Martin at 16, it is his passion the stories, the detail, which is indeed evident in the series of books that inspired Game of Thrones.

original source of Martin’s letter, printed in an edition of the Fantastic Four.
