. Iggy Pop “Old are the rags” – Observer

If last Thursday the Super Bock Super Rock was marked by delays in the start of the show (Samuel Úria took the stage almost an hour later), this second day kicked off with the early clock: Petite Noir, for example, It started nearly 10 minutes before the time – and it was not the only one. Not so much the sea not so much ground, it festivals with tight schedules between stages, 10 minutes is too long for a fan.

Leaving aside the detail, it was another late and great night (26 ° C to 3 am) without mishap environment to host another good day of music. Iggy Pop was the Lord assigned to the main stage of honor’s time, but were the Massive Attack the band managed to fill the MEO Arena. The details of what we saw and heard this Friday are filed in our liveblog (music, environment, interviews), but we chose to also look at other performances in more detail.

Iggy Pop

she sang and did shake the MEO Arena. Iggy Pop, the legendary singer of The Stooges, did what he wanted with the public that vibrated from first to last minute. Despite the many wrinkles that show without modesty, he was presented as always we know, shirtless. Cocheia (Iggy Pop has a left leg shorter than the right), but do not stop to think about it. Gives the hip, runs from one side to the other, a lot of energy for 69 years has entered the skin.

The public reacted with a mixture of admiration and envy. The physical ills of the time spent “in an impossible band to live an impossible life,” as told in 2007 Rolling Stone, are part of its history. Lust to live does not lack and proved it again with “Lust for Life”, the song written for four hands with David Bowie. The anthem of more than a generation (the film “Trainspotting”, remember?) Brought a rush of adrenaline the concert was still going in the first third.

The madness came shortly after, with “Real Wild Child “and when James Newell Osterberg Jr. (his birth name) down the gap to greet fans. The musician remains a true stage animal, “one of the great, as it only Mick Jagger,” commented one onlooker amazed off the show.

Just before the hearing was keen to bid farewell to much applause and many screams asking for “jump, jump!” Iggy did not get to jump into the arms of the public. Not needed. All he had to give – and it was very – came on the stage. [EAR]

This concert made up of big hits, but not only. He tore big with “No Fun” and then “I wanna be your dog”, from The Stooges themes. The jump to the solo career followed shortly thereafter with “The Passenger” and “Lust for Life”, that is probably the best album of Osterberg career -. Lust for Life

Post Pop Depression , released in March, appeared late in alignment with “Sunday”, the fifth song on the album produced by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age. the new themes they are decelerated but not lost the Rock and Roll load. Iggy has confessed that this may well prove to be the last album, but if today’s concert is indicative, the singer still has much to give to a public eager for more.

The return to classic came later, with “Real Wild Child”, “1969″ and “Search and Destroy”, themes that played with the Stooges. They were playing for so many other great songs in a concert where not missing anything. [ILD]

Massive Attack & amp; Young Fathers

They spent five minutes from midnight when Robert “3D” Del Naja and Grant “Daddy G” Marshall stepped in. Artists preceded was a moment of darkness, which was never fully leave the stage. “United Snakes”, the album’s song Heligoland (2010) opened the hostilities. There followed “Risingson” one of the great themes of masterpiece Mezzanine (1998).

The hypnotic trip-hop Massive Attack calls, usually to be heard eyes closed and with a more or less frenetic body balance, according to the intensity of the music, and the blackness of space so provided. But the visual effects that accompanied the (s) band (s) would not let take your eyes off the stage. And just as well, because a spectacle of these have to be seen.

Many of the songs took a new look and much of it was meekness gained strength, and it deserved to be witnessed.

addition to the force of orchestration, were also the visual effects, which have evolved over the concert. If at first they led us on a journey, even to imitate an airport panel gradually been pulling us to assentarmos feet on the ground. “He Needs Me”, interpreted by the Young Fathers, was “dedicated to the victims of the tragic and incomprehensible attack in Nice.”

This was followed by the (giant) theme “Inertia Creeps” which had as its backdrop the current news. The titles (in Portuguese) that were emerging gave Brexit account, the terrorist attack in Nice, sanctions and new champions of Europe and was derailing to other topics such as Kardashian or Luciana Abreu. “Take It There”, the result of collaboration between the two bands was motto to remember the number of recent attacks.

The concert went bouncing around between subjects of Massive Attack and collaboration with the Scottish Young Fathers. The project unites the two groups was already known through EP Spirits Ritual , launched in January. The Young Fathers even managed to take the reins of the concert and play two own themes, “Old Rock and Roll” and “Shame”.

The oscillations between trip hop of Massive Attack, the pop of Young Fathers and the merger between the two created a little cohesive concert with overwhelming moments and others not so much.

the project that joins the two bands seemed promising, but was eventually crushed when presented next to the well-oiled machine that is the Massive Attack. It is, perhaps, too early for a show that brings together such different records when the public has not yet had time to digest well the news.

Still, it was a great show, or were not on stage Massive Attack, who were called back to the stage for encore and toasted the audience with “Unfinished Sympathy”, with the voice of Deborah Miller to make the turn of Shara Nelson. [ILD]

Captain Fausto

“Good evening, we are the Iggy Pop.” With a start-up of these it was not hard to guess what followed. Tomás Wallenstein is free to enjoy everything and anything, but you never forget the power of songs. Respect the very public who stole the headliner (Iggy Pop) and spent an hour to parade the main successes of the band, highlighting seven of the eight new songs Captain Fausto They Days Counted (only lacked “Alvalade Call for Me”) – which added the strong themes of the previous Gazelle and Weigh the Sun

the magnificent audience Stage antenna. 3 was completely full, complete with arms in the air, color known letters, the people screaming and moche. Yes, people who are in the pop of Captain Fausto energy lacking many rock shows “hard”, let us say.

Thomas Wallenstein was not always a tune but voice, despite having less space the band seemed more comfortable compared to the spectacle we have witnessed in the last Rock in Rio. – perhaps because they have a lot more people watching, with more and better return

closed the hour with eared “Tomorrow Tou Best”, a title (not a letter) that projects a particularly relevant message. It’s just a detail that reinforces the hype Captain Fausto. Is to last, there are still many days to tell. [PE]

Mac DeMarco

can a type with a goal in the teeth, carefree teenager pose (and badly behaved) and childish attitude of “I-me-a-marimbar-for-what-you-can-tell-me” come to a festival with the size of the Super Bock Super Rock and be one of the most anticipated names by the public? Can. And Mac DeMarco proved it tonight, the EDP stage

The assistance was a very young audience (in contrast to what was seen, for example, between Iggy Pop concert spectators.) – And not infrequently seen kids under 17/18 years to dance and sing their songs with mighty passion. It was beautiful to see, like more or less of their puerile jokes (at some point, surely for more than 15 or 20 seconds, he decided to entertain the exchange funny laughs with the four musicians who brought with him). But this is part of the “game” and, not surprisingly, the audience seemed to find joke to a “freak” that challenges the conventions and rules of normalcy.

On stage, Mac DeMarco and his band were dispatching with good wave and joy jangly rock prankster who heard him on disk, on topics such as “Cooking up something good,” “Ode to viceroy,” “My kind of woman”, “Freaking October the neighboorhood “and psychedelic (if psychedelia also include space cheesy songs – good)” Chamber of reflection “. In one of the issues, there was a runaway (perhaps rehearsed, perhaps a “jam” the moment) who knew well: the musicians fever rock and roll, Mac DeMarco guitar shooting demonic riffs endlessly and a “combo” Rock of five who were there on stage. The audience enjoyed: and matched the show “star freak” (or star of freaks ) that Mac DeMarco already is. [GC]

Glockenwise

stage Antena 3 Super Bock Super Rock has shown that Portuguese music is in good health. “A few years ago we were walking very alone. We now have friends, “said tonight the lead singer of Glockenwise, Nuno Rodrigues, who spoke of the emergence of a” small community “musical in the country.

The band Barcelos reached the stage Antena 3 about from 20h55 and the audience had a public to see – including many “friends” and “kids” who are beginning to make music, to whom Nuno Rodrigues His advice. “make a lot of noise”

These words underline the identity of the band that is not afraid of taking on: “we are Glockenwise a Barcelos garage-rock band.” This is the sound cauldron they cook live: A rock through punk through garage with a very own vigor of youth. Public swiming other advice: “This festival has rock in the name. They can do whatever they want. ” A beautiful theme for the Moche that then broke out on the tour.

At the festival, the Glockenwise brought abrasive songs, played with volume at most, among the most direct and effusive of his early works and rock themes more “full” and determined that integrate Heat , album edited in 2015. This was followed, on the same stage, the also “friends” Captain Fausto, who were well represented in the audience (we saw Thomas Wallenstein, vocalist, and Sundays Coimbra, bassist, among the public). The band asked them excuse for not planning to see their concert. After all, the MEO Arena played Iggy Pop at the same time. And we all know how much Glockenwise like rock without brakes and with the smell of gasoline. [GC]

Moullinex

Sometimes it does not take much to win a person. Not an audience, as demonstrated by the attitude of Luis Clara Gomes (Moullinex) this morning, the Stage Carlsberg, for that alone deserves a special underline. Explain why.

(magnificent) hair Jillian Hervey double Lion Babe just stopped flapping at the time intended to Moullinex (in band format), so foresaw was a long delay, which at that time ( 2:20 a.m.) thing was able to demoralize even the most resistant. But that’s not what happened.

In just six minutes there was a table with mixing machinery that moved into the stage and with it Moullinex white towel around his neck (the heat was too much, inside the pavilion) . Without delay, will pass music, with Prince to open. – At a glance the “Purple Experience” that will take place this Saturday, closing the Stage Antena 3

The comfortable, energy and skills of mix music are widely recognized him, but the man lost on a turntable ahead. I was there playing music as if inside a garage – with thousands of people – while the stage was riding team and tuned the instruments around him. It was as if to say “hurry it there in the back while I hold this guys dancing.”

It seemed until distracted by the magic of the dishes, the point of the band have been waiting for him. Or it was to be still, just maybe the stage at entry has been precipitated by the delay because when the band entered the mixer out, the instruments have replaced the dishes. – In this case, the electric bass

All in shorts, uniform to match the temperature, start off with “Take a Chance” Elsewhere (2015), soon after a ‘Sunflare “mischaracterized and so on, songs all pressed together other, as do the DJs, but with a band – very competent but Moullinex the need to refine the art of singing, the rest of the school he already has. One thing is certain, do this with discs is easier and sometimes effective, but the attitude of not having made us wait was worth everything else. [PE]

We’ve been straight over the day liveblog where you will find many other moments spent in this second volume of the 22th edition of the Super Bock Super Rock – is still some more in the photo gallery above. This Saturday the temperature should rise further, because the day is sold out (20,000 people) and the main reason has a name: Kendrick Lamar. We’ll be there.
