From June, the ads on TV will no longer have the highest sound – Daily News – Lisbon

The Regulatory Authority Communication wants to end the annoyance of inconsistent sound levels

In a statement this farm -feira on the official website, the Regulatory Authority for Communications (ERC) announced that from June the TV ads will no longer be able to have the loudest sound. An approved policy on 23 February by the ERC states that “auditory sensation levels” of ads and other programming will have to be normalized.

The policy approved by the ERC aims to ensure the comfort of the viewer due the sound variation between programming and commercial breaks. The regulator stipulates a maximum sound to the sense of hearing intensity intervals and programming, measured in LUFS, an intensity measurement unit of sound that serves precisely to normalize the audio of television broadcasts or radio.

the ERC adds that the policy applicable to all television and television operators under Portuguese jurisdiction, shall enter into force on 1 June.
