Friday will be the universal day for the release of new albums – Shifter

According to current conventions of the music industry, the days set to release albums in the United States and the United Kingdom are, respectively, Tuesday and Monday. Something that, considering the current scenario, it makes no sense: people want access to the content as soon as it becomes available, and the Internet allows them to it, without giving importance to borders between countries

Frances. Moore, director of IFPI, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, said that the establishment of a common day to all countries would end the frustration of many fans, the can not get access to a song in her country when she was already launched and another is already public. For Moore, this decision may even reduce piracy.

Thus, the IFPI has decided to Friday, in all countries, the norm to release new albums. Decision, after all, was not welcomed by all. Although no one in the industry has opposed to a universal day, the major criticisms were made regarding the choice of Friday. According to Rich Bengloff, director of the American Association of Independent Music, there is “various business obstacles” that make Friday a very favorable day for the North American market and for independent publishers. Department of Record Stores even suggested making the current day US standard in the universal standard, and the change would lead to lower costs for small businesses in the industry.

However, the decision appears to be taken and Friday will become even from the summer, the universal day to launch new discs.
